If the editors don't like what you have to say, they delete your post and lock your account.

So much for democracy, huh?

If you are trolling a forum, cursing, shouting "All of you are idiots" ... Yes, that is likely to happen. But that is the same in all forums I read, not just here.

True, you didn't use the word "idiots". You wrote about "ignorant editors".

I agree with windharp, you were trolling.

Where did we say this forum is a democracy?
"A Public Forum Sponsored and Moderated by ODP Editors"
If you want to post on this forum you will have to follow the guidelines.

Isn't that obvious?

No, and it is incorrect as well. You are free to publically disagree with anything any editor says, but you are required to keep civil and refrain from personal attacks or insults. The moderators are also free to ban, block, edit and delete anything that does not abide by the guidelines.

If you think there is some fact editors need to know in order to build a comprehensive directory, but don't know, you're welcome to state your assertion, and adduce whatever evidence you have. And ... the editors that care to learn, and are capable of learning, will have the opportunity, thanks to you. I pick up a few things from these forums that I hadn't yet noticed from site reviews.

Or, if your fond belief is something that would easily be disproved by a simple review of a few tens of thousands of websites, some editor may in exchange provide the benefit of his experience to give you the opportunity to cure your ignorance -- if you can and if you care. Since very few webmasters have actually looked at as many as a thousand other sites, whereas some editors have looked at hundreds of thousands, this is the way information usually flows.

But either way information flows, someone has an opportunity to benefit. And that kind of benefit (rather than some bizarre notion of redistributing profit between retailers) is what the ODP is all about.
