I have a succesful wedding cake company based in London, UK and I am keen to get it listed in the directory. I submitted my site a long while ago and as yet i've heard nothing. The site informs that me that i should expect to wait a few weeks, though people on the forum having been waiting up to a year. Is there any way of checking that the application is still in the system and guaging how long it will before a lisitng appears. Thank you.

All these questions are answered in our FAQ.
- you will (almost) never hear anything after you suggested a site
- it says "2 weeks or more" , waiting several years in some parts of DMOZ is normal
- no, there is no way for you to check the system to see if a suggestion is still waiting
- how long? nobody knows

I imagine that you suggested it to the London Borough where you're based. That's where we'd normally list a London wedding cake maker.

Just a suggestion.

Even if I belive that to have a site listed the last thing to do is submit t via the dmoz form, it's hard to have a script that once a site is submited the one that submitit can receive an e-mail once the editor clicks on his submision at least. In this way you can have some feedback regarding the site/submission. If the site is visted and not listed you know can analize the factors:
- is it a bad site ?
- it was submited in the wrong category ?
etc

.. and you can improve it and sumbit it again.

Here is a poll : :D
A. Is this a bad suggestion ?
B. It is a good sugestion ?
C. I don't care about that !
D. Get a life !

Waiting for some feedback :D

Best,
R

The answer is : E. This has been discussed over and over again and it has been explained all these times why it won't happen.

Bad suggestion. Needs no poll. 90% or more of sites rejected are spam and we don't want the webmaster to learn they have been rejected so they can improve their disguise and submit it or a variation again. If a site is full of quality original informational content it is listable. If listable it will (eventually) be listed (somewhere). If not listable the webmaster is in the best position to know why - is it plagarised, is it an affiliate, (fraternal) mirror, MLM scheme, deeplink, redirect, or the 30,000th site we have received on the same subject and adds nothing new to the information we have already linked to?

Do some forum searches, the responses will enlighten you about many things, including the nature of pure evil, the mission of the ODP, and how they differ.
