Abuse retraction after site removed due to technical

Hi folks

hopefully this is a straightforward issue / request.
Our first site went live 15/9 and we submitted to DMOZ, we were then very pleased to find that we had been accepted. All was right with the world :)

However, last night it all disappeared and after searching and surfing all over the place and not finding any information why this happened decided to contact DMOZ using the abuse function. You'll have to excuse me but I am new to this and I only found this forum today. Anyway, the upshot is that I sent in request using this asking what had happened , something we had done / technical glitch etc all very polite.

Well today of course, I have found out that there ARE technical problems and looking at it due to the cache dates my site has temporarily gone while it is sorted. My question is, is there a facility to retract the abuse reference number as I don't want anybody to waste their time and of course get a reputation for causing trouble in the community.

Kind regards

James

Since we are unable to log in to see the reports (since our main server is down), we currently can't close the report. But processing those reports usually takes very little time if the site in question is still listed, so don't worry.

Thanks Windharp

I was really worried that by using this method to try and find out what had happened, that I may have upset the DMOZ editors, which is the last thing I wanted to do. I'm not here to create trouble but just to produce a good quality web site.
For future reference, is this the correct place to come to find out if there has been a system problem first or where do you suggest? I don't want to make the same mistake a second time.

Thanks

James

Don't worry, we're not that easily upset ;)

Yes, this forum is probably the best place to come and ask about technical problems such as the directory being down. However, we don't answer questions about specific sites.

Just to clarify, for anyone else considering using the abuse reporting system in the future to report that their site is no longer listed: the public abuse reporting system is really in place for people to report abuse and spam, not for inquiring about why a site has been delisted.

Hi Nea

yeah, I kind of got the impression about specific sites being a no no. I had a little look about before posting :) You'll notice that I did not mention my site *********.com (laughing)

While I'm here, is there anywhere that you would ask info on specific sites or is that just not done anywhere, only need to know so that I don't go wasting peoples time again.

Thanks

Hi Motsa

Ok I've got the message I was a bad boy :( (laughing again)

seriously though, I was concerned at the time and when I told someone on another forum how quick I'd been placed, I was informed that it must have been an error (noone gets on DMOZ that quick) and that is why it had been pulled. Somewhat stressed I used the wrong facility. But the main point this brings out seems to be , is there any function out there, where you would be able to, maybe not see the reason for delisting but a confirmation that you have been delisted FOR a reason (no detail required - but it would force you to take a closer look at your site knowing that it was declined, and not say a technical glitch).

Just an idea

I'll just be grateful if you lot are still talking to me :)

thanks

Now that's not true, as you know from your experience. Some people think that because their sites are taking a long time to be reviewed, that everyone's sites are just like their's and can't understand when sites are listed quickly.

I've listed sites before they were suggested, the same day they showed up, and years after they were suggested - all depending on where they were suggested. Some categories will never have sites waiting longer than a week (assuming I can get to a computer to edit) - my home town for example :) - others I will never list sites in.

Hi Imocr

As you say, I know from personal experience now that dependant on category and workload for that category you may or may not be reviewed and listed quickly.
However, from the conversations I have had in the last 24 hours, most people seem to think that getting reviewed and listed on DMOZ takes many months to years. I'm not sure of the best way to get the message out, you would think that you could give each category a marker for high usage etc, BUT you just know that people out there would then submit to incorrect but faster categories to try and get on, causing a whole stack of different problems.
Not sure ifthere is a solution to that one, over to the deep thinking experts :)

cheers

James
