Adding Site to Pets Category

I'm new to this and not sure what I'm doing. I'm not even sure if I'm writing this in the correct place. Sorry if I got it wrong.

I'd like to add a site to the Pets category, but there is no link for site submission on Pets. It seems that ODP wants something more specific, but the site is a general pet site. There are subpages of the site that do fit into categories, but I was under the impression that putting subpages was a bad thing. What should I do?

Hello RenaR

You are welcome to suggest your site to the directory, where it will be reviewed at some stage by a volunteer editor, but you can't add it there yourself. :)

The instructions are very detailed, but worth reading carefully, and include the advice to
Identify the single best category for your site. The Open Directory has an enormous array of subjects to choose from. You should submit a site to the single most relevant category. Sites submitted to inappropriate or unrelated categories may be rejected or removed.

Note: Some categories do not have "suggest URL" or "update URL" links. These categories don't accept submissions, so you should find a more specific category for your site.
In other words, if there are no suggestions accepted at the top level of "Pets", you will need to find the more specific category where sites like yours are listed. The category descriptions will help you.

Nothing else really fits

Hi makrhod,

The site that I'm trying to submit is <no discussion of specific URLs according to foum TOS>. It doesn't really fit into any of the subcategories for "Recreation: Pets", but I can submit the site to "Health: Animal: Pets". Should I do that instead? The site includes health issues, but it's really a general pet site.

There are landing pages for Dogs, Cats, Horse, Reptiles, and Birds. I can't submit each of those pages individually into the subcategories, right?

Thanks a ton!

Thanks so much

Hi Windharp,

I have to say that that didn't occur to me. Thank you so much for your help. I'll get to it right away.

Thanks again,
RenaR
