address that redirects to another address

Hi,

It says in the conditions:
Do not submit any site with an address that redirects to another address.

I have registered a domain name for the site intended to be submitted. The domain name is redirected (without frame) to a free webspace address, where the site is hosted at present. I may have to relocate the site at a later stage if it exceeds the bandwidth limit of the free hosting space.
Do the conditions mean that I can not use the official domain name for submission because it is redirected to the sites present position? It would save having to submit the address change at a later stage.

Please advise

The URL which will get listed is the redirect, for all sorts of reasons which would be too long to go into right now, but have been discussed several times on this forum.

Thanks.

The matter has been discussed, on and off, for years on the internal forum.

If you submit the actual URL, with a comment in [] as to the original URL, then the editor who chooses to list the site may (I would say, should, but it's not presently in our guidelines, as far as I can tell) choose to indicate the original URL in the editors' notes, to help finding the site if the free webspace disappears.

Hi Alucard,

I know you must be fedup with stupid people asking the same stupid questions, but I did try for about an hour to find an answer by searching through the threads.

Thanks

Thanks arubin,

just to be sure I've got this right.

I submit the name of the free webspace i.e. http://homepage.eircom.net/~mypage/
and I leave a comment to the editor
[the official domain name for this page is http://www.mypage.com]

Is that it?

Well, if I were you I would just submit mypage.com. We are going to change it anyway and when we do it is going to leave notes on the url that mention the change so if you ever change the real domain and the site gets caught by our dead link checker an editor will be able to see from the notes the main domain and find the new domain. This is just my opinion but from my years of experience at dmoz.org doing it this way is going to give you the best chance of maintaining your listing for the way you have your site set up. Hope this helps.

Thanks Helper,

looks like the opinions differ slightly among the menbers. I guess I'll put it all in a pot, stir a couple of times and - how's that:

I submit the official domain name i.e. http://www.mypage.com/
and I leave a comment to the editor
[the address this page is pressently hosted on is http://homepage.eircom.net/~mypage/ ]

That should be save enough.

Thank you all for your help.

Hi spectregunner,

I take it from your comment that I should stick with my previous solution.

I was agreeing with your post on 5/14. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I work in a youth organization, and taking a prize out of the drawer is a reward for getting things right.

Thanks spectregunner,

I guess I'll have to face up to the fact that I'm getting old.

Thanks to everybody for your help.
