I submitted a site almost a year ago. Can someone lend advice on how to get it listed? Actually, there are several that I submitted that haven't been listed. Thanks so much in advance!

You don't get a site listed. You are, however, welcome to suggest it once to the one best category. Some volunteer will process your listing suggestion in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one.

Someone had suggested emailing the category volunteer but I can see that wasn't great advice :).

Active editors are well aware that there are bazillions of websites that we haven't yet listed - suggested or not. Bugging them to claim priority isn't encouraged and we advise them not to respond.

The "best " chance of getting a site listed is to become an editor. You will find many of the editors have MULTIPLE listings. The forum censures such comments (and will most likely censure me) but the truth is MANY Editors are corrupt and ONLY become editors to get as many of their own sites listed as possible. While "blocking" their competitors. I tried for six years and just gave up.

Which is the same old arrogance we hear all the time from these selfish (as long as my site is listed who gives a crap) editors. We submit a site wait a year , hear notihng , AND then if we re-submit we are told we will get penalized or ignored. As long as "their sites" are taken care of the motto is "who gives a shi- about anyone else".

That wouldn't be the word I'd use, Sculley. LOL

This forum censors specific accusations against specific editors because the place to report concerns you have about abuse is the public abuse reporting system at http://report-abuse.dmoz.org -- not here. As I wrote in the other thread, we take editorial abuse very seriously, but we can't deal with it if we don't know about it. (And we're not psychic.) I will say, though, that only a tiny fraction of the abuse reports we receive have any merit whatsoever -- most are either spam or people abusing the reporting system or are submitted by people who leap to the conclusion that a competitor is keeping their sites out just because the site hasn't been listed in x amount of time. The fact of the matter is that editors work where they want to -- if no one wants to edit in the category where your site would be listed, then it can take a very long time for your site suggestion to be reviewed. That's not abuse, but rather is an expected effect of how the directory's volunteer system operates.
