Hi

I am finding it difficult in choosing which category I should select in submitting my site to the DMOZ directory. My website is a general directory of articles. The articles cover a vast area of categories and sub categories.. in fact it has around 360 categories in total.. around 36 top level categories and the rest sub categories. I did a search for 'articles' in dmoz but that bought up categories that were more topic specific.

eg

http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=articles&utf8=1&locale=en_gb&morecat=1

I would appreciate it if any of the dmoz editors would give me a pointer as to which category my site would fit within the DMOZ directory.

many thanks in advance

Always start from the top, drill down on subject first, then once you've found the most specific subject, you can drill down further on media type. That is, it's would be something like Arts/Music/Jazz/MIDI Files, not Computers/File_Formats/MIDI/Jazz. (contrived example)

You say you don't have any particular subject in mind, just sort of random perorations. Then the subject is obviously "subjects I write artikuls about because I'm me." -- in other words, it's a personal page, regardless of what kind of CONTENT you place there -- text, audio, video, graphics, whatever.

Now, if you have a class of subjects -- Computers, Religion, Music or Arts -- you should drill down that far, and go into THAT category's Personal_Pages subcategory. Otherwise, go to Society/People and find the right Personal_Pages subcategory there.

If you choose the wrong category, don't worry: an editor will find the right one. After all, it's a service we provide to all surfers -- to categorize the sites we review.
