This is not a status request!!
I need some advise please.

I submitted my website www.whitedogbikes.com to the catagory dmoz.org/Shopping/Vehicles/Motorcycles/Parts_and_Accessories/
ages ago. After reading some dodgy information about submitting, I kept resubmitting the site (about 4 or 5 times), however, I was shown the error of my ways when I asked for a status report on 11th Jan 2005 & have not resubmitted the site since (ah well, ya live & learn!)

I have since encountered 2 problems & would like advise on the best course of action.
1) I think I submitted my site with the url whitedogbikes.com , due to a technical fault, this url has been producing the response 'unable to find specified server', the url I should have listed the site with is www.whitedogbikes.com , 'cause of this overlooked (& now fixed!) fault, there is a good chance that if my site came up for review, the editor would have got the 'unable to find specified server' error & the application would have been rejected. Should I resubmitt my application with the correct url?

2)On spending hours trawling the net, I have discovered that I should probably have submitted my site to the catagory dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Recreation_and_Sports/Motoring/Motorcycles/
which is a regional listing & is more suited as my business is based in the UK. Should I submit my site into this catagory?

To cut a long story short, I've c**ked up & want to konw if the best thing to do would be to resubmitt my site into the correct catagory with the correct url? I know that, if my site hasn't been reviewed, this new submission will overwrite any previous submissions.

Please advise on the best thing to do.
:D Cheers!

I have not looked at the stie, so I am giving you general information.

Resubmitting the correct URL is ok - just add a note in the description that the other one was temperamental.

If your business has a noticable addess on the site, you are more than welcome to submit it to the Regional category you name.

Neither should be a problem.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply :)

Just out of interest, if a site like mine is regionaly based (i.e in the UK & does have a 'location' page) & contains genral motorcycle information & advice which could be useful to people outside the UK, should I submit to both catagories or just the regional? Or is submitting to 2 catagories a big Nooooooooo! ?

Again, thanks for the swift response.

In the case where it has regional significance and global topical, we won't bring forth dire consequences on you or your heirs if you submit to both categories.

re Dire Consequences

What, whadoyamean no dire consequences? I was at the very least expecting a beating or public flogging? & to think I'd kept my diary clear on Friday so I could be dragged through the town in stocks & have rotten tomatoes thrown at me by gap tooth locals!

P.S, my heirs really do get on my nerves sometimes, any chance if a resubmit my site a few times you could have them taken away? :D

Anyway, thanks for your help!

We reserve those as special treats for some of our worst submitters. You are going to have to try a lot harder to get close, believe me.

As for whether the "locals" (i.e. other editors) are gap-toothed, I'm not sure, since I've never met another one. Believe me, though, if we could arrange such a thing for certain submitters, we would buy out the stock of the local tomato farm.

Depends on where you rate your ODP listing in value as compared to said heirs....

Just to clarify a point, by 'gap tooth locals' I did actually mean poeple from my local town, not the ODP editors!

Ah well, that's me screwed then, I can see all the editors reading this thinking I'm calling them 'gap tooth locals' now & rushing off to become editors of the catagories I've just submitted to in order to ban my site!

Hmmmmmm..........very tempting, still, I could be the first site rejected on the grounds of trying to get rid of my unruly heirs on the ODP forum........

Maybe.
Maybe not.

Free advice: don't try the old "mail the editor a dead cat" trick, as it has been tried before. :D :D
