Am I able to suggest a new category?

New categories are created when there is an ctual need for them. If you have a lot of links that would fit the suggested category, suggest them to http://www.dmoz.org/Recreation/Radio/Amateur/ - if the editor processing them thinks they require a subcategory like this, he will create it.

And what about http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Autos/Ma..._Models/Singer/

Maybe one of the Meta editors could look at why this (and many others) aren't listed under their letter of the alphabet.

By the looks of things - only individual models @links go under the alphabar cats. Manufacturers have their own subcat.

Anyway, the problem still stands. What about sites for Commer, UAZ, GAZ, Gutbrod, Jösse Car, Crossley Motors, Zastava or other brands that don't have a category yet?

One option would be to post a list of potential links for each missing marque here. One of us can then point the recreation/autos editors at this thread from the internal forum and maybe one of them will be interested in creating and building up the missing categories.

Kind Regards,

Andy

Not the most intuitive or most convenient method, but for now probably the best.

UAZ

Commer

GAZ

GLAS

Jösse Car

Crossley Motors

Zastava

Thanks - I've flagged this thread in the appropriate internal forum,

Kind Regards,

Andy

EDIT to add:

NB:
Recreation/Autos/Makes_and_Models/Specialty_Manufacturers

lists Crossley and Josse already (as they only have one site - won't normally get own category until multiple sites submitted.)

So the category is for makers that only have one link or in what way are they special? I know I have submitted some sites that I don't really feel they belong there. I for intance noticed a GAZ site in that category.

I don't think they're special - if additional sites relating to the same manufacturer are identified (through submissions or otherwise) - an individual category will be created and the listed sites moved across I presume.

I am working on a Gaz category myself currently - and will move that site across to it once it's live.

NB: This might be a language confusion - speciality has several meanings - and in the context of car marques should be taken to mean less well known ones that there may only be one or two sites for.

Per http://www.oed.com/
Speciality
5c: A thing or article specially characteristic of, produced or manufactured by, a particular place, business firm, etc.
