An old (sort of) defunct site of mine

I was thinking of applying to be an editor, so the first thing I did was search for my name (GrrrlRomeo) on Google. See, I've made quite a few hobby sites over the last 10 years and I wanted to check if any were still up that I'd be considered affiliated with. To my surprise I found one of them listed in DMOZ and I don't even remember submitting it.

Category: http://dmoz.org/Society/Gay,_Lesbian,_and_Bisexual/Lesbian/Personal_Pages/G/
Site URL: http://members.aol.com/grrrlromeo/

Awhile ago I took a majority of the content of this site down, but I left up a page with some Indigo Girls MIDI files because there are very few Indigo Girls MIDI files on the net. I'm not sure if I should submit a new description, suggest a new category or if it even has enough content to be listed at all. It's just one page with a handful of files and a link to my current site.

Also, my current site that I've been running for the last couple of years is also an Indigo Girls site and awaiting review in the Indigo Girls category. If my old site listing were to be moved to a new category the most appropriate category would be http://dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Sound_Files/MIDI/Artist_Specific/ which would actually be an @ link to http://dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Bands_and_Artists/I/Indigo_Girls/ which is the same category that my current site is awaiting review in.

Does that make sense? I don't want an editor to think I'm doing something funky by requesting my old site be moved to the same category that my current site is awaiting review in. I just want to make sure there isn't a conflict if I suggest a new category for my old site. If there is, then I'll just update the description.

From the point of view of becoming an editor, having listed and pending sites isn't usually an issue - just be sure to declare them.

From a directory point of view, we wouldn't normally list two websites from the same owner about the same topic. We'd consider that to be a single website spread over multiple domains. (It has been known for webmasters to attempt this in the belief that it will improve their search engine rankings.)

I'd have thought the optimal thing to do is to include what remains of the old site's content in the new one and make the old site redirect to it. A URL update request for the existing listing could then be made. Most editors process update requests with a higher priority than new submissions because they often rectify quality issues.

Would it be kosher to make my old site redirect to my new one and request a URL, description and category update? I would think that would look as though I'm trying to get around the new submission queue by simply altering an old site that's already listed.

That's okay, in fact that is the best way to do it. Use the "Update URL" feature in the category for the request. Be sure to wait with the update request until everything is working as desired.

Okay, I added a redirect from my old site to the corresponding page on my new site. The content has always been on my new site, I just didn't want to take the old site down because it had worked it's way into several MIDI directories.

Thanks for all your help!
