I was accepted the first time I applied but was asked to choose another category.

I'm not sure that I understand what you are saying here. How could you have been accepted but asked to choose another category?

There are no applications pending for that category, which would lead me to assume that the application was denied. Sometimes Hotmail or Yahoo's junk mail filters will filter out the denial e-mail. If you are using Hotmail or Yahoo, check in your junk mail folder to see if there is a denial letter there.

Hi Donald,

I have been watching my spam folder for an email from ODP but did not receive one. I also added the ODP address to my safe list so it should have gone to my inbox. I have to admit I am very surprised to hear I was rejected and now I won't be able to find out why.

As to what I meant about being accepted previously, this is part of the email I received (in my inbox) when I applied the first time (about 9 months ago).

"Thank you for your interest in becoming an Open Directory Project editor! Although we would like you to join us as a volunteer editor, you have chosen a category that is already well represented, or is broader than we typically assign to a new editor. We would encourage you to re-apply for a category that has fewer editors or is smaller in scope, in order to increase your chances of being accepted."

So unless that is a standard reply, it sounded to me as though I would be accepted if I picked a category with less entries waiting to be reviewed.

Not a problem though, maybe I'll try again some day.

Thanks for your time.

That is a standard reply when you have chosen a category that may be a tad too big for a new editor. Although that category may not appear to be overly busy, it actually has a fair amount of sites waiting to be reviewed. That can sometimes be scary for a new editor. I'm not saying that is why you were denied this time, but it could have been the reason. Next time around look for something small that you feel you can add to.

Hi, just a followup. I was accepted as an editor but I did not receive the welcome email until today so perhaps it was overlooked when I asked to have someone check? The date on my email is October 1st.

Just wanted to let you know that mistakes do happen (we are human afterall) :)

I'm not sure what you mean about being accepted and just getting the email...I just accepted you as an editor earlier this evening (a few hours ago). I imagine the email went right out after I did so. :flower: Congrads on being accepted!

[edited to add]I just re-read the thread again and I think I see what you mean now...there is no way to view the original date of the application now that it's been processed so I don't know when you had submitted it.

Actually, I think that it was more a technical problem than a human mistake.
