Application status - Candice KausHagen

Hi all.
I'm new to this forum, but I recently applied to be an editor. I cannot for the life of me, remember what login name I used. Anyhow, I applied for – Top: Regional: North America: United States: Florida: Counties: Walton

I am a web designer working for a local creative group. I don't think I have any conflicts of intrest and the category is small.

Anyhow, I was wondering how long it takes to get a response (it's been a few weeks). Is there anyone who can tell me where my application is in the process?
Thank you.

Candice

Well, there's no application waiting to be processed for that cat... Either it's never been received, or it has been denied. You're welcome to try again :)

Please read the FAQ and General Advice before you do so, though. And if that's done already, reading it again would probably be a good idea ;)

A word of warning: due to our regional guidelines, very few sites actually get listed in county categories. Most get listed in the Localities where they are (and which are linked from the county.)

You might have better luck going for the biggest town (or the Society subcategory of it), where you could actually find appropriate sites.

Ok, well. Hmm. I submitted it like two days after ODP got back up from that downtime. Gee, that was alot of trouble for it to just get lost or deleted or somthing.

As far as the whole county thing, you'd have to live here to know why I applied for the whole county. The reason is that there is no "town" in this county that would even be considered a town to anyone. I mean, the whole county has less than 30,000 permanent residents (it's a vacation spot). So, I'm not sure what city I would apply for.
Oh well, I guess I'll just have to pick one. I suppose, if I get accepted as an editor for the town, then maybe I'll be able to get my hands on the county one day?

Thanks.

Agh!

I just went through re-doing the entire application for the town in Walton County that I live in (Santa Rosa Beach). When I hit the 'Submit' button, it tells me that I can't have more than one app in at a time. So, that must mean that my app is in somewhere. If it can tell that I have an app in already it must be using my user name right? If so then it would be ckhagen. If not, then I must be incorrect as to exactly which category I submitted to.

Any advice? What should I do?

Thanks

Did you ever get the confirmation email?
Did you reply to it?
Sometimes spam filters block it, if it's not a bug perhaps the app is caught in limbo.

No, I never recieved a confirmation e-mail. I didn't know I would get one. When I found out I should have gotten one, I ran searches on my email to see if I had received it and didn't notice, but I don't have any record of one. I don't have a spam filter so, shouldn't have had a problem there. Since I never received the e-mail, I'm positive I never responded. I had some e-mail problems a few weeks ago with some messages duplicating themselves. I can only think that may it was also deleting and I didn't notice.

Thanks.

There might be some problem regarding the route that the email takes, starting from the dmoz server and ending up in your inbox. There might be some delays as well.

Wait some days (probably a week), and if you still don't receive the confirmation email, try reapplying with a different email address.

What email host do you use.. I know that outblaze is currently having technical difficulty (the one I use) if they continue to have difficulty I have a few mail services that are very rewarding and alot better than outblaze.

Hm. Well, I've never had any problems with getting e-mails. I use a small host out in LA who hosts my domain (candiceandmichael.com). How fast would you normally get a conf. email? I'm %99 positive that the cat I told you guys I applied for IS the one I applied for (walton county, florida). If I'm not listed as having an app in that cat, then I don't know what to think. This is beginning to get extremely frustrating.

You can't be listed as having an app in that cat because you haven't replied to the confirmation email.

>> This is beginning to get extremely frustrating.

What is so frustrating? One confirmation email probably got lost. That's no big deal. It happens. Wait a couple of days for it. If it fails to arrive, reapply using a different email address.

Also, when you reapply, it's suitable to paste in a text file the content that you write, so you have it handy in the future.

Ok. Maybe I failed to make myself clear on "why" this is so frustrating.
It's been 3 weeks since I sent in the application. Is it normal to have to wait 3 weeks to get a confirmation email? If not, then what do I do about it? Granted, I can't reapply because it says I already have one in but, it's not showing up.
Do you see where I'm going with this? I'm sorta all tied up in red tape.

Heya candice, thanks for your reply.

No.

>> If not, then what do I do about it?

Have you read my post above? :star: It's clear that you've waited the specified amount of time that I've suggested (a couple of days). Try to reapply with a different email address.

>> Granted, I can't reapply because it says I already have one in

It shouldn't do this if you follow the advice above (hint! hint! "Try to reapply with a different email address." :) ).

Hope this helps. Looking forward to hear how your application went this time :)

Added: don't forget to put the fields in a text file. So if you get an error message like "username already taken", you can resubmit in no-time by doing copy-paste from that text file.

Um, I hate to be a prick but...

Is there somthing I can do to "fix" the problem rather than skirt around it by using a different email address.

Reason I say this is because I don't have a different email address and I definitely don't want another one. I mean, it seems kind of crazy that my email address has been hi-jacked by the system and I can't even offer a ransom.

Your email could have been changed back at any moment once accepted as an editor.

Anyway, check your email - I've sent you the md5 key after speaking with ODP staff :)

C

Thanks for the key vladd.

Had a problem though, when I replied, I got an email back saying it couldn't be accepted because of a bad authentication ticket. My fault? Theirs? Bad number?

thanks..
