There is no application waiting for that category so I would assume that it was rejected. If you're going to reapply, I would recommend finding a smaller category.

Make sure that you read through FAQ and General Advice in this forum.

I understand the principle and reasoning behind recommending applying for a smaller category, but if THAT is my area of expertise, and what I'm willing to devote time to, then applying for something else really doesn't make sense to me.

Scott,

Then it's a Catch 22. If your interest in editing is only in that category (for whatever reason) and that category is considered too big to let a new editor loose on, and if the Meta editors that approve applications can't see what you can do with a smaller category to prove your editing skills in the ODP way of doing things, before granting you the larger cat, then there's probably no way to go forward.

All we can do is thank you for your interest in the ODP.

There is a possibility which has been used at resource-zone before. Can you propose a logical breakdown of that too-large category which results in at least one subcategory that's small enough for a new editor (<20-50 sites), interesting to you, and capable of being developed further (say another dozen or so sites) via internet search?

If so, we can create the subcategory, then you can apply for it, add the new sites (establishing a bank of credibility as an editor) then there are various ways to work up to the main catogory.
