I can find no trace of your application. You should have received an email from us shortly afterwards asking you to confirm it. It wouldn't go into the queue until you did.

I can only suggest that you try again.

Okay, thanks for checking. I'll fill it out right now, but I may back up a category level. Thanks!
{I guess this is that part where saving the page where you applied comes in handy!)

You should stay with the Business and Economy category. The next level up may be a bit too big for a new editor.

Ouch - too late.

Actually, what I have found with more research is that the market for real English-language webpages that are from the actual area and not some greater area page with a region-specific section is not too big - yet! So for that reason I thought that I would back up a level - also, this way I could deal with submissions that would fit more properly in the city categories that lie in the larger section, which has no editor...

The amount of stuff awaiting review, and the level of spam within that pile is also taken into account when an application is being consided (Applicants don't have access to that in advance, hence the gentle hint by donaldb that the category may be too big). Also important is that an editor of a category can also edit in all of the direct child categories of that category. The total number of sites in the category and all child categories is therefor the one considered in this case.

Thanks all for the replies - I was promptly rejected, I would imagine for the large category. I'm re-re-applying now for the smaller category where I may sharpen my tools and go from there if warranted!

(hey there giz, a quick hello, as I recognize you from another 'World')
