I have not yet received an email of confirmation or denial apropos the editor position I applied for, so I am wondering if my application is still in review or not.

* The category I applied to edit was /Health/Mental_Health/Self-Help/Motivation/

* The 'editorname' I used was either gutsmcd or perhaps Matthew

* I applied to edit the category on 26 October 2011 because this was when I received a confirmation email in regards to my having submitted an application for said position

It's awaiting evaluation but I can see immediately that the category is unsuitable for a beginner. I'll process it now. (done)

@ Jim...

I'm highly impressed with your promptness in assisting me with this matter. Thanks!

I'll now definitely look into reapplying for an editor position, but - as suggested - I'll focus my efforts on a category with fewer listings.

Stay well.

@Jim...

I'm sorry to bother you again, but I was wondering if you could help me with the following query I have.

For the previous few days, I've been looking at another category I would like to become an editor for, but I'm currently stuck with the following two options.

* Regional/Africa/South_Africa/Education/
(with 57 listings)

* Regional/Africa/South_Africa/Gauteng/Johannesburg/Education/
(with 20 listings)

My preference would definitely be to apply for the top entry, but - even though it only has 57 listings - I was wondering if this category still might be too broad for a beginner to apply for.

I'd appreciate any input you might have in regards to this matter.

Thanks, Matthew

The country-level category would likely be considered too broad, simply because most school/education sites would be listed in the relevant locality categories or under http://www.dmoz.org/Reference/Education/Colleges_and_Universities/Africa/South_Africa/ instead instead and you wouldn't have editing access to those categories from the country-level one. (The country-level category would be for schools with locations across the country or for education-related sites with a countrywide focus, such as education organizations.)

Thanks for the response Motsa!

I was hoping to apply for the country-level category, but - realistically - I thought it might be too broad for a beginner. Had to take a chance in asking though, because that would've been my definite preference.

That said, I'll now apply for the second category I mentioned instead.
