Hello. I am very excited about the prospect of becoming an editor of a subcategory pertaining to my town, and hence, was looking to get going on it. Please forgive me for any sign of being impatient. From what Ive read elsewhere, most denials are quicker, so I am merely writing to confirm there is not a problem.

Sorry, but it looks like your application has been reviewed and denied.

What does it take to be an editor of an editorless subcategory of my hometown, in which I am very familiar with (education)? :( You'd think a self-employed college grad with years of editorial experience might be able to make it into the 'secret club' when there is a vacancy. Afterall, growing up in the town and being exposed directly to the majority of the educational facilities available within must not merit any consideration.

Just a rant, as I genuinely am intrested in helping. Maybe Ill go apply in the Yak category of a small town in a Western Russian locality. :)

Think I got a shot editing a category pertaining to South American Marmots?

Any other editorless categories [we] might have a shot in?

"Will [edit years of backlogs] for free". heh.

Disclaimer - I'm not a meta and don't review editor applications.

There's not that many sites there in total, so apply for the locality rather than the education sub cat.

The 3 sites you suggest can be for any sub category [add a note in square brackets to the description stating which sub category it belongs in]

Check the spelling before submitting.

Look at the existing descriptions for the 'style' of description writing (ignore the animals sub cat for now) which uses a 2 sentence structure. The first a brief description of the business/service, and the second a description of what is on the site. You can use a single sentence as a lot of editors do, but the 2 sentence structure can make it easy to visualise what you are doing in small sections.

Oh, spell check it again.

Let us know of any affiliations - be honest. Tell us if its the site for the school you work for, if you are the webmaster of joe-bobs cornmeal sales, if your family has a personal pages site. It makes no difference to your application unless you are found to be telling porkies, even if just by omission.

good luck. :)

Just checked - we dont have that category :p, closest is http://dmoz.org/Science/Biology/Flora_and_Fauna/Animalia/Chordata/Mammalia/Rodents/Sciuridae/ In fact we don't appear to have any marmot specific categories

Hey, Ill give it a try. At this point I wouldn't forsee them allowing *more* responsibility. Although Im intrested in editing for my whole locality, I chose an undeveloped subcategory in hopes it would influence the decision (but stated such within the application). Apparently not.

Yes, this is a good idea. Thanks. My format used was of 1 sentence, based on surrounding, related categories and a plethora of other unrelated categories. Ill avoid such in the future and rather attempt this.

I was quite open about such, in that I admitted as being married to an employee of the only public school district in this town (but I work for no school myself! :) ). But that fact alone would probably not bias me, because there is nothing else to lean from as an alternative.

good luck. :)
Thanks. Well see one day if any of it works out and I can help Russian Yak lovers of this world find important web content. In the meantime, Ill keep pounding away with more applications.
