appropriate category selection help

Hello,
We (Tabachin) are listed in a regional category, and I have read in these forums that we could/should also be listed in a topical category. We are a small hotel in mexico, and are currently listed in:
Top: Regional: North America: Mexico: States: Oaxaca: Localities: Puerto Escondido: Travel and Tourism: Lodging: Hotels

I was looking at the topical category of:
Top: Recreation: Travel: Lodging: Hotels and Motels

Our website is http://www.tabachin.com.mx if you'd like to review our site to see which category we may fit in.

I enjoy reading this forum, and would like to make certain that I submit it right the first time (if at all).

TIA,
dean

Our Recreation: Travel: Lodging cats all @link over to our Regional cats, so in this case the Regional and Topical listings are one and the same. There is no place for you to submit in Topical.

The topical/regional rule is for sites that would go into general Regional cats and more specific topical cats.

For example:

- Churches may be listed in a state category for the denomination and in a Locality category in Regional.
- Dentists may be listed in a Health category in a Regional Locality and a Dentistry category in Health.
- Sports teams may be listed by the sport over in Sports and in a Recreation and Sports category in a locality in Regional.

In other words, a double listing is allowed in Topical when the Regional categories don't have a fine enough grain to them. In the case of Hotels and Motels, we make a point of making subcategories for them in each locality, so the category can do double duty.

Yes, there are exceptions to the Regional/Topical rule, and accommodation/lodging is one of those exceptions. Think how many hotels there are in the world, and then imagine they all had web sites.

The only way we could sort them is by Region, which we already do, in Regional. The only hotel sites that get listings in Topical are international hotel chains.

Understood. I thought it was strange when I was browsing by subject and got switched over to regional when I chose "North America" from
Top: Recreation: Travel: Lodging: Hotels and Motels

Thanks for clearing this up for me. I won't be submitting and wasting your time. :)
