Just wondered are there any figures for number of people applying to become editors and the % accepted. I see some of the senior people on here saying it can take anything from weeks to years to get a site reviewed, Surely as an information directory it is not beneficial for people who use the directory to not be able to find most up to date information it should not take years…

Could some of the people that apply to become editors be used as a sort of team to clear backlogs or even just weed out multiple suggested sites or the spam allowing senior people more time for other ones as a sort of apprentice route (Maybe over seen buy senior editors)Then be given a role as editors of much less used categories then working there way up.

It just seams strange that a directory is turning away willing editors yes I’m sure many have ulterior motives but not all and making them serve out there time should weed them out...?

Also are there figures for the amount of people suggesting URL’s and the % of those accepted

I haven't seen any official figures of the percentage of applicants accepted.

We accept everyone who completes a good application. Some problems which cause an application to be rejected:

Lying or not listing affiliated sites, even affiliated sites which are not directly related to the category application.

The inability to write titles and descriptions close to the Guidelines. First, we don't expect perfection regarding titles and descriptions, just that the person is trying and that they are teachable. For example, some people are absolutely incapable of writing a description without hype and a bunch of keywords.

The inability to select sites appropriate for the category for which they are applying. Say that the category is topical/informational, and they are suggesting sites on the application which are purely shopping.

People who do those things aren't able to "clear backlogs." And truthfully, there aren't backlogs. There are suggested sites which haven't been reviewed, but they are not the only source of listings for editors because we aren't a listing service for site editors.

I don't know the percentage of site suggestions which are listed either. Since site suggestions are also found elsewhere, the percentage doesn't make any difference to editors. But some categories are hit very hard by spammers.
