How many cats can i submit this site to?

http://www.laser-group.co.uk/preload.html
(if the site fills the screen press Ctrl +W to get rid of the full screen)

As you can see there are 4 sections to the site

1. Main section
2. Civil Engineering Section
3. Special Projects Section
4. Design and Build Section

Note: I am currently changing this site into HTML

Can i submit the site to 1 or 4 categories?

Thanks for any help in advance. I thought i should come here 1st before attempting to submit.

Quiting the submission guidelines:

Step Three
Identify the single best category for your site.

Which simply means: Look for the one category that best fits the page.

I see a picture of your headquarters building on the site. If you put your physical address on the site somewhere, you'd be eligible for a Regional listing as well, for a total of two. Please be very specific in choosing the regional category. I'm guessing something like Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Worcestershire/Worcester/Business_and_Economy/Industries/Construction_and_Maintenance/ would be about right, but that's just a guess.

I went to have a look at the site, but all I saw was a black screen that stayed there for 20 seconds, then it displayed a 'loading' bar that started slowly ticking up. I cancelled it after another 30 seconds at 25% because I have no patience.

This won't affect your eligibility for an ODP listing but you might like to consider how many of your customers are likely to get bored and click away. You might also consider making the image on your base URL clickable so the people don't need to come in 'through the back door'.

Actually, it /may/ affect your listing - but only in regards to the length of time. Imagine that dfy was reviewing your site for listing just then - he would have probably left it in the unreview queue for another editor to review: that might not be for a few more weeks as the editors will be aware that "dfy normally looks after that area".

If he could get into your site quickly, easily navigate around it etc he would have probably listed it "there and then" instead of leaving it for another editor to trip over.

Of course, I'm just using dfy as an example there - but if a site failed to display anything on my Internet Explorer 6 machine (512k ADSL equipped connection) within 30 seconds and gave no indication that it *was* planning on showing anything, then I'd mark it as a "dead" site and go back to it a week later. If it was showing the same problem (i.e. appearing to not load within 30 seconds on a broadband connection), I'll mark it as dead and delete it!

How long are your potential customers willing to wait?

Beebware speaks truly. The cool graphics that the advertising agency can sell you with smoke and mirrors on their 2Gigahertz laptop running off a fast local hard disk in the conference room, become inconscionably rude delays when fed through an effective 5KBPS-share of a cross-continental internet backbone. Sure, put that Flash'y glitz on a promotional CD that your CUSTOMER can run off HIS fast local hard disk. But don't inflict it on people whom you ever hope to have for customers.

I think s/he is already fixing the issue. <img src="/images/icons/cool.gif" alt="" /> By the way, nice use of Flash (although what the other say about it is true <img src="/images/icons/frown.gif" alt="" /> it did load fine for me though). <img src="/images/icons/grin.gif" alt="" />
