I've been waiting about 15 months for the submission to go through - I understand that this isn't necesarily considered a "long time" for DMOZ submission - but would like to know if there's anyway to modify my submission, or to check to insure it's in the correct category.

I can't recall if I submitted to:
Top: Shopping: Vehicles: Parts and Accessories: Engine

or if I submitted to:
Top: Shopping: Vehicles: Parts and Accessories: Performance.

In short we do performance parts but focus on engine components. Either category would probably fit our focus but I feel the engine category is probably a better fit. If we're going to be moved to that category anyway I'd resubmit and "get in line."

I'd also like to know where people find the 'updates' on each category to see when the last time the category was updated or if there is currently an editor in the category I'm submitting to. I looked around both the DMOZ site and this site and have seen it referenced but have not been able to find the information on that specific category.

If it makes any difference our site submission is <deleted>.

Your volunteer help is appreciated. :)

No, there's really no official way to tell. So far it's not absolutely forbidden by the project itself for editors to check and tell people. It is generally agreed that it's dangerous for editors, though, and useless for honest submitters, so it's not allowed in this forum.

Look att the bottom of each page, there´s a grey text in this format: Last update: 8:22 PT, Monday, April 3, 2006 - edit
If there is an editor listed for that category you´ll also find that name as a link at the bottom of the page, otherwise you´ll see this text: Volunteer to edit this category.

Ah, thank you.

No editor listed.

However, it shows as being edited April 3rd, which I'm assuming is fairly well up to date and would point towards submissions not being in the 'perma-log.'

In your expereienced opinion is there something I probably did incorrectly to not have it submitted by now? I was careful to read the directions and believe (although it's been quite sometime) that the submission was done to your specifications. We are an e-commerce site, as are most of the sites in our category, but provide a niche and specialization to our product mix. The site has been completed for quite sometime and we're generally highly regarded in our industry (but I don't think that makes a difference unless the editor is actually familiar with us/the industry.)

Since it appears that it's been updated, and it's a relatively small category (~140) would you recommend I re-submit?

Thank you for your guidence.

No, please don´t re-submit! It´s very probable that your submission is OK and just still waiting.

The date just shows when some kind of update were made to the category, it could be an automated quality control or any other change, and doesn´t mean that an editor activly decided to not list your site.

The category still could be edited by hundreds of editors even if there´s no-one listed on it. ;)

Your assumption is wrong, that doesn't point that way at all. If there were a million suggestions in the log, and someone added just one of them, the date would be changed.

The opposite evidence doesn't point the other way either, as you can find from searching these forums for the dude whose server logs showed a visit from an ODP editor every week or so, while the category logs showed no changes in two years.

What's important is the directory (adding or correcting listings.) The suggestion pool is just there to help find listings to add, it's not the center of anyone's attention.
