Best Category to submit www.klbwebsolutions.com

I am taking an SEO class which recommended being submitted to ODP. I mentioned I have tried about twice to be listed, to no avail, so they suggested I check here to make sure I have the right category.

My business is KLB Web Solutions, at the website http://www.klbwebsolutions.com. I specialize in web design and development and internet consulting for small businesses and non-profit organizations.

Now I have been submitting to Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Basic Service: K. I chose this category initially because it seemed like it included businesses like myself. However, is this not the best category?

Please advise if I should possibly be choosing Full Service, another option under Designers, or another area altogether. I just want to get listed to help in my other rankings for my site.

Two part answer.

Don't resuggest the site in the Computers category - the editor there will move it if required. In addition those web designer categories are not particularly interesting for a lot of editors - I mean are we really doing anyone a service by listing yet another web designer along with the other (pick a number) web designers listed by name. This part of the directory categorises by Topic, which, in this case, is business type (web designers).

However, in addition to waiting for an editor in the Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Basic Service: K category to process the suggestion there, you might want to consider suggesting it to the Regional branch of the directory, which categorises by physical location, probably http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_Amer...ania/Localities/W/Wayne/Business_and_Economy/ since thats where someone looking for a local web designer would be looking. This assumes that there is some detail on the site that the business physically exists at that location, and interacts with people locally (ie more than just an address).

Don't take this as a general free for all to list sites in both areas when you go back to your SEO class, however a site that contains details of its business type and location may be listed in both places. The reviews are not linked, will probably be by different editors, and at different times.

I definitely will stay away from the general category. I honestly agree that they probably don't want to add yet another designer site. The last time I tried was over a year ago, so I pretty much think that it is hopeless there.

I did suggest my site at the other local category you mentioned. I do have contact info on my site with a local Wayne address, and the majority of my portfolio sites are local. So I do think I qualify. We will see how that does.
