Blacklisted Question: What if others over submit my URL

I have read just about every page on your "How To Submit" content. You state that over submitting a URL may cause that URL to get rejected. My concern is that others might submit my URL in order to squash my attempts on getting in DMOZ. Is there anything in place to prevent this? Is there something I can do at my end?

We rarely see that happening - indeed I never have in almost 30,000 edits.

Tell us your URL and we'll tell you if it's been abused or abusive :D

I have heard it claimed, by webmasters who have submitted over and over again, that it must have been a competitor, but our systems are not that primitive that they can't distinguish the truth. I cannot for the life of me think of any example I've seen of a site being suggested by a web owner's competitor. Except where the suggestion came from an editor - editors get into the habit of suggesting any decent site they come across regardless of the owner or whether they are a competitor.

I have seen it happen; I investigated, um, a case once.

In the grand scheme of things, it's about 1000 times less likely than an editor making a mistake, and about 100,000 times less likely than a spammer doing something evil to us on purpose.

That's right, you're 100,000 times more likely to get rejected for not having enough unique content, and 1000 times more likely to get lost by a simple clerical error. Worrying about it is like staring out your windshield, poised ready to dodge any falling meteorites, as you drive through a school zone at 70 miles per hour, chugging your fourth fifth of 70-proof.
