Please don't start new threads when one already exists on a specific topic. It make more work for someone (in this case me :) ) as someone has to find the old thread and merge it. It's too hard to follow a conversation if it is taking places in multiple threads.

There is a FAQ link on my signature file, that should answer your questions. :)

1) There is just no telling how long it will take. It depends on the independent decisions of volunteer editors. From outside, the process looks random. From inside, it just looks indeterministic.

2) No, there is no notification of any kind. If the submittal has a problem, it'll be fixed if possible, otherwise just dumped silently. A significant minority of submittals (a few percent) have irreparable problems. No problem -- so do a significant minority of links from search engines and other sources.

As for the website noted in the submittal: if it conforms to the ODP policies (that is, contributes to its mission), even then editors will ignore problems if possible.

But if the website isn't considered worth listing, it's certainly not worth opening yourself up via e-mail with a possibly irate webmaster! No, there would not be any notification.

Thanks, Hutcheson

I understand a little more about it now.

As for you, kokopeli, I read the FAQ and it didn't answer my question. Not really. It said the process takes between 2 minutes and 2 years. I thought it depended on the number of submittals and volunteers, so that there might be a running estimate--Days=QueueLength/Volunteers. I guess it's more random than that.

Sorry for wasting valuable time. Merry Christmas.

BTW: I tried searching for this thread and came up with nothing. Searched for "kennylucius" and then "awardannals".
