Can different pages be listed in different categories?

Hi,

I was wondering if different pages on the same website can be submitted for consideration in separate categories.

My website http://www.endangerous.com is appropriate for the Printed T-shirt category, and I have another page http://www.endangerous.com/pcords.html that would be appropriate for the Sporting Goods: Skydiving category. If I were to submit these two pages to their respective categories, would it be considered spamming since they are on the same website?

(Of course I'd be grateful if either one were included...I'm not trying to be greedy:eek: )

Thanks!

Neil

Please suggest only the main url of the site.
Do not suggest deeplinks.
If (and only if) an editor thinks a site is worth listing with deeplinks (s)he will do so. But this will almost never happen within shopping. And certainly not with a small amount of content on the deeplink.

In Shopping categories, deeplinking is especially rare--i.e. all but forbidden even for editors. SUBMITTING deeplinks is forbidden EVERYWHERE by the submittal policies, and in Shopping categories it is tantamount to submittal abuse; and here the explicit penalties mentioned in the submittal policy are most likely to be quickly applied.

I submitted about 20 links within my domain, but each is actually a different website. Our customers have their own sub-directory in which they build their own websites using the general look and feel of the parent site. They are not shopping sites or e-commerce sites, but offer descriptions of the types of services they provide, photo galleries, locations, etc...

So did I screw up by submitting each site separately (almost all in different categories)? I chose the most specific regional category for each company's website and submitted only their home pages.

I noticed in some of the categories that there were other listings which are the same type of setup (same domain but different websites in sub-folders).

I also noticed that in a couple categories a site had many (3-5) deep links in the same category. It was the same site in each of the categories that was so favored. Perhaps the editor has a relationship with the webmaster?

Sometimes multiple domains represent one website: jims-widgets.com, jims-gadgets.com, jims-doodads.com and submitting more than one of them would be treated as abuse.

Sometimes, one domain holds many websites: geocities.com/ohio.skydiving.club/, geocities.com/new.york.antique.repair/, geocities.com/florida.nightclubs/ and submitting each one would be OK if they are NOT related in any way.

We review the content of the "website", but sometimes take into account the "intent" of the submitter when we are being abused.

What giz said. If they really are independent, we don't mind.

In my personal opinion however, domain names are so cheap these days that the practice of sharing one amongst several entirely different websites, either as deeplinks or as subdomains, somehow lacks credibility. Most small websites need as much of that as they can get :) .

There are cases where something like you describe would be OK, and other cases where webmaster abuse or bad editing is involved. If you'd like to name one of the categories, someone would probably look at it and give a more specific description of how the guidelines (should) work.

Thank you for your replies!

Let me explain a little more about the nature of the main site. Our site is a "community directory" type website where companies can have their own space within specific categories on the main site to tell the web audience who they are and what services they provide. Each companies web space is made using a common template for theme and typically the same site structure (home page, about us, contact us, photo gallery, amenities, packages, etc...) but have custom banners and logos and content. Most of the companies do not have their own top level domain website - nor do they wish to maintain and promote one.

Here's one of the categories that I found multiple "sub sites" listed:
http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Montana/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/Ranches/

According to this category my submission was valid and should get proper review (no?).

At the time they were listed, those deeplinks were the only Internet presence many ranches had. So, at the time, they were appropriate. Most now have their own sites so I've corrected them. Thanks for letting us know.

Companies that do should suggest their own top level domain website and not the one on your site. As for the ones who don't have their own site, we can't say whether or not the deeplinks you've suggested are appropriate without seeing an example but I suspect they fall into the "not appropriate" pile.
