Hello,
I am new here.

I have about 5 diferent websites.
I have hosted the first one as for eg., www.mainsite.com
Now i have hosted the other 4 as subdomains eg., www.sub1.mainsite.com, www.sub2.mainsite.com.....etc.

The content of all 5 websites is very different from each other. The main purpose of putting them in subdomains, is to save on hosting charges.

Now my question is can i submit each subdomain to ODP. My intention is not spamming, but just to make sure ODP has an entry about each of my website.

Thank You

Hi moja,

Without knowing specifics I can only say the answer is "no." The submitting FAQ says:
You should submit your site to the single most appropriate category that is directly relevant to your site's content. Please only submit your site one time.

If your site is something like:
vehicles.com
motorcycles.vehicles.com
autos.vehicles.com
motorhomes.vehicles.com

There is no doubt the content of these could be called "very different from each other" but they are still related topics and only the root URL would be listed.

Hope this helps.

What dajeffster said.

I'd add: if you are thinking, "I've got this deeplinked content, it would be listed if only it were on a separate subdomain" -- you are deluding yourself. "SO" you think, "it has to be on a separate domain." That's not deeplinking, it's just deep delusion. Normally -- in all but exceptional cases -- one entity (a person or business) will have only one website worth listing, no matter how many domains, subdomains, subdirectories, pages, divs, paragraphs, or spans they may have implemented it with.

Look at your content. Does it really stand out -- is it visibly better than all the next hundred sites on the same subject already listed?

Now the critical question. Will someone who is not financially interested in it give the same answer?

If the answer includes any negatives, forget your deepspamming strategy, and focus on creating one site worth listing. (That's not as easy as it looks, and nearly everyone who hasn't focused their plans well enough to fit them into one topic -- is going to fail to get even that first listing.)

i have individual domain names pointing to all these websites.
eg.,domain name www.sub1.com points to www.sub1..mainsite.com
domain name www.sub2.com points to www.sub2..mainsite.com

Other option is i submit www.sub1.com, www.sub2.com etc to ODP in their own respective categories.
But then according to the guidelines i should not submit a URL which redirects to another address.
So is it ok if i submit the individual subdomains to their respective categories.

But if you had the money they would be all on one URL, so in general we consider it's one site, which for some reason got dispersed over several URL's, and list only that single URL.

If we don't take that approach, then a company that sells 100 different products can create a website with each product on a different URL and expect to get 100 listings in ODP.

No way

Without exact specific URLs to look at, the only possible answer is the one that has been repeatedly given. (We know that your concept of "very different" and "content" is probably very different from ours, which is why your asseveration does not affect the answers.)

And with exact specific URLs, 99% of the time, it is still the same answer. Most sites that DESERVE and GET multiple deeplinks are not among the sites that ASK for them.
