hi,

i am in Lahore, Pakistan connected via worldcall cable internet. i cannot access www.dmoz.org

i can access everything else, except DMOZ.ORG

pakistan's government banned porn sites for the whole country internet traffic, but they probably banned DMOZ, right?

my computer is connected to internet via a local cable net provider who has main 512kbps connection from WorldCall (www.magic.net.pk). did my local cable net provider block my access to DMOZ? when i asked them, they said NO.

any ideas?

DMOZ has a section with an Adult directory, so there is a chance that it could be classified as a site with Adult content.

We previously had reports from users in pakistan who could not access the DMOZ server - see http://resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=8710 for an example - sorry to say that we are currently unable to provide a solution. If you just want to browse the directory, you might use the copy at google.com, that one should be accessible.

Edit: Please note that the mirror on ch.dmoz.org that is mentioned several times in previous discussions is terribly outdated, and it is currently not planned to update it.

Edit2: It should be possible to bypass the blocking by using any not-in-pakistan proxy server to access dmoz.org. But I don't know if you could get any legal problems by doing that.

Hi,

Regarding legality, everything illegal in Pakistan becomes legal once you bribe the CHIEF JUSTIC OF PAKISTAN and their rates for justice start with merely $2,000 upto anything for even murdering innocent human-beings.

Anyways, I am most interested in learning how to use the non-in-Pakistan proxy to browse DMOZ.org, can you help me further?

sorry for stating the "reality" in pakistan about it being world's top ranked corrupt country. however, i hope i said it from the deep love of pakistan as it is my motherland being "corrupted" by these judges, policemen, army, and what not on a daily basis.

anyways, that is off-topic subject and i just wanted to clarify why would the "corrupt" telecom company of pakistan PTCL block DMOZ.ORG? i hope i said nothing to hurt your "patriotic" feelings which frankly i can't imagine to do as Pakistan is my own motherland too and far far more sacred than any "corrupt" departments of government officials.

Pakistan Zinda Baad......

Since the ODP has nothing to do with the Pakistini government, we can't even begin to speculate about whether or why they might block access to the servers.

I think the most likely reason is the one you stated at the beginning: Pakistan is blocking sites that are Adult-related. The ODP includes an Adult Directory, so it might be classified as Adult.

But as Alucard says: We don't really know. It could as well be a totaly different reason. If you really want to know you would have to contact your authorities.

 Is there a chance we move all the adult listings to www-Adultmoz-org ? <-- still available or www-xmoz-org <-- not available but looks like the domain name is forsale :D
