I brought this up yesterday and have tried to find an answer
I cant view any of the dmoz site ie anything beginning with dmoz.org
I dont seem to have a problem viewing any other site, I recently bought new pc running windows xp using Internet explorer although I have tried different browsers . Is it possible my ip address has been banned or does proxy ip have anything to do with it? Please can someone advise or possibly tell me what to look for

The site is up currently -- well, since there are several public servers, it doesn't go down very often.

I don't know what country you're in: we've heard of several barbarian dictatorships trying to block dmoz.org from anyone within the country.

It's also possible, I suppose, that your proxy server has been blocked because it was being used by some rogue spider.

i FOUND THIS ON ANOTHER FORUM AFTER SEARCHING FOR Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer WHICH IS A LITTLE DOUBLE DUCTH TO ME BUT IF YOU HAVE THE IP ADDRESS FOR DMOZ i WOULD LIKE TO TRY TO SEE IF THAT WORKS

If you can browse to http://216.92.56.121/ but not to http://duxcw.com/ your DNS (Domain Name Service) server IP address configuration is not correct or your service provider DNS servers are not resolving the domain name duxcw.com into it’s IP address, 216.92.56.121

Well, there are a lot of supporters of the other side of the UK's current outbreak of institutional violence that call Blair a dictator, but -- as you can see from Jim's location, he's not yet descended to the level of blocking websites.

dmoz.org is very very standards-compliant (not perfect, but pretty close) and is regularly used by people with everything from the latest Mozilla to text-only Lynx. I doubt if it is the browser.

It's also pretty static-page or server-side-driven-dynamic, so there's not much in the way of security settings that could block it.

You can block any domain name by editing your own hosts file. (I think it's pretty safe to assume you haven't done that, but with MS-Windows' concept of security, any program could do that for you -- although I've never HEARD of that actually happening.)

You mention a new computer. Did you get a new modem, router, ISP, or kind of internet connection at the same time?

Well, I think we can eliminte either of the computers. I'd have to think it is a router or firewall problem. Are there any other sites you cannot get to?

[p.s. Please don't type in ALL CAPS as many people interpret this as shouting, and I'm certain that you do not intent do be perceived as rude. Thnaks in advance.]

Cant view site.

For some reason, I have no idea why but I am unable to view any url from dmoz. I have tried finding out why but to no avail. as far as I am aware this is the only site I am unable to view. I would like to submit a site for consideration is there any other way I can do this?

Not sure I am fully understanding the problem? You are unable to access dmoz.org? If that is the case then there you will need to check the content filters for your web browser. There is no way to suggest a url to dmoz except throught he suggest url feature from the category in which you want to suggest it.

Have you tried using a different browser to see if it is a browser issue?

<I've combined your two threads together -- please don't start a new thread to ask about an issue you've already asked about>

What occurred a week ago at or around the time of the problem?

Some possibilities:

1. a virus

2. adware [scumware]

3. a corrupt file in cache possibly from a system failure [as noted previously dump cache, and all temp files]

4. a change in the firewall

5. a corrupt IE - download a new install [also download/install another browser - and if you can see it then you have ruled out 1,2,4]

Keep in mind that he originally posted in January so the problem started in early January.
