I have a web site that I have many questions about attempting to list in ODP. I am trying to sell three very different things on separate pages of the site:

1. Gag Wine Labels
2. A jazz CD that I composed, performed, and produced
3. Nautical fishnet décor items

I get the idea that I can’t do this, but can I submit to three different categories?

If not, since I don’t think there is a category for Gag Wine Labels, my first choice would be to get into a generalized category for Wine. Is that possible, or is every subject fine-tuned down to its last point in ODP where I would probably be the only one in that category and no one would ever think to look?

To go along with the gag wine labels, I have a page that takes you on a tour of a fake winery in Industrial City, CA. I’ve thought of submitting my site to the Winery category, but since it’s a fake, gag winery, would the editors laugh at me for submitting to the real Winery category?

So do you think General Merchandise would be the best, and only category, possible to suggest, or is it possible to have it in multiple categories, like General Merchandise and Humor?

Usually we prefer suggestors to suggest to a single topical category. The editor will review the site and then decide if that is the right category.

As part of that review, they will see if any of the other unique content may merit suggesting to a different category as well. If that was the case, then the editor reviewing it in that category would also have to agree. More often than not the editor will seek to send it to a more general category and/or mention non category content as part of the description.

The aim is not to deny more than one listing but to ensure that the site is reviewed methodically.

regards

PS though it seems not to be applicable in this case - if you have a bricks-and-mortar address where people could mail you or xpect to visit you can also suggest it to that locality in regional. If you have content in more than one language (not babelled) you might also suggest it to the appropriate world languages.

If I eventually buy another domain name for the music portion of my site, but still keep it as just one page of my total site as it is now, will that count as a different site, for listing purposes, or can I even do that? (You can probably tell I’m new at this.)

You are free to do whatever you like with your site, of course, but as far as the ODP is concerned we consider each site as one entity, regardless of how many domains it is spread over. So only the main URL would be listed, and it is then up to you whether or not you link the other parts of the site to that or not. :)
