Hi,

I have a question about choosing a category when submitting a URL. I noticed that for many bands (e.g. http://www.dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Bands_and_Artists/G/Garbage/), several websites are listed in the category of the band itself, and several websites are listed in the sub-category "fan pages". It seems that sometimes pages in the parent category of the band are also created by fans. So I wonder what criteria are used to determine which category is more appropriate and how would would determine the best category for submission?

Sincerely,

Jonathan

There aren't always enough sites to support a separate Fan Pages category.

When the subcategory is created, the editor doesn't always review all the existing listings, to see which should be moved into it.

But generally speaking, this is just one way of breaking down what's getting to be an unwieldy list of sites about a particular performer.

Roughly, fan pages would have less unique, objective information about the band, and more about the fan's impressions or experiences: such as personal reviews of concerts or recordings, personally taken photographs, etc.

The line is fuzzy, and might be drawn more strictly for, say, a very popular performer.
