Category for a foundation helping Liberian children?

Hello,

I have recently spent some time reading descriptions for various categories from the Society->Organizations and Society->Philantrophy->Organizations.

The Foundation's headquarters are in Poland, but the target country is Liberia (Africa). I guess the best hit would be By Region. But there's not even "Africa" on that list.

I could place them in Child Welfare, but still they also educate adults, have anti-AIDS program and so forth. I'm lost.

I'm afraid that the first time I suggested the site about a year ago I placed it in a wrong cat., it never showed in DMOZ (type help liberia in google to see url).

I'm not asking if I should try again. I'm checking the situation every couple of months and I am *considering* another try -- please help w/ category -- is this gonna be a big deal to add "Africa" or "Liberia" to By Region?

Thank you for your time and effort; Matt.

The Regions are not real subcategories, but pointers to other areas. I would suggest suggesting the site in the Organizations category and make a second suggestion in http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Poland/Society_and_Culture/Non-Governmental_Organizations/
Regional: Europe: Poland: Society and Culture: Non-Governmental Organizations (It is based on the location of the origanization, not the target country)

It is quite possible that you can get two listings

This is assuming the org in non-religious - if it is religous please read - http://www.dmoz.org/Society/Philanthropy/Organizations/desc.html

In additon it may be possible to also get listed in http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Africa/Liberia/Society_and_Culture/Aid_and_Development/
Regional: Africa: Liberia: Society and Culture: Aid and Development

Thanks for the suggestions.

We have developed a separate, Polish sub-section (mirror site, same domain) of the website. It thus should make sense if we post the PL section in the Polish sub-cat, and the EN section in a carefully selected category.

Hard to say if it's religious. Some of us are Christians, we have a Bible program, there are some Christian articles posted, but we are NOT church-based, and we do not limit our help to Christian communities. We serve everyone we can, we invite anyone to volunteer.

It's up to the editor, I believe that person will know better after the review.

EDIT:
some in evangelism subcategories or those that have evangelism mentioned in the description might be interested in promoting their religion as a part of their work
Yep. self-explanatory. :)

Thank you once again.

Mack, if you mean that you have a sub-domain in the Polish language then you should suggest it to World in the Polish section. However, you need to suggest the root URL, not the sub. Just make sure there is a flag or something on the root URL that shows the sub of the Polish language.

It's literally like this:
domain/index.html goes for the EN section
domain/index_pl.html goes for PL
each of the parts has its individual menus and links that rarely cross the language barrier. So, technically this is not a sub-domain, just two parts of the same website within the same domain :toomuch:
I believe the thin red line between the two parts is rather obvious in our case. When an EN article appears, somebody does a translation and posts a PL mirror within the other section...

On a personal side: why the turquoise bold font, dogbows???

Last question first. I'm a color freak and it's my trademark in this forum.

Editors prefer to list the root URL. In actuality you should use the root (domain) as the main site and then link to the different language indexes from there. :) :)

If you think I'm bad here, you should have seen my website before I took it down. :D

But I'm afraid that viewing too many websites is not to blame. I have been a color freak since before I even knew there was an internet. And over 20K edits to my credit before I resigned as an editor never had any influence either way.

dogbows: Not bad but somewhat original typographic approach :p

I need to start serioulsly consider DMOZ when doing my own private researches on the subjects I'm interested in. I've always been using the evil search engines, showing little appreciation for your group efforts... mea culpa.

OK, then -- see you some page, some time. Matt.

EDIT: thanks, bobrat! I'd get there for sure :)

ROFL @ bobrat!

Oh, since you are so good at volunteering your time, you might want to find a small category that you have interest in and apply to be the editor. :)

A small locality in Regional/Poland sounds like a good start to me. Just be sure to list all your website affiliations, and study for the application. It's not hard, trust me I used to be an editor! :D :D
