Dear Editors,
I just visit Dmoz and find that Category Top: Regional: Asia: Travel and Tourism: Lodging (21) is not updated since Dec. 20, 2003

I hope this information will help to editors and user too.

There are bound be a fair number of categories that haven't been updated in a long time so this really isn't news.

Not necessarily. Since very few sites would be listable in Regional: Asia: Travel and Tourism: Lodging (which is only for Asia-wide hotel chains and the like), I would expect to see it updated very rarely.

"Very rarely" is not "not". It is not even very rarely not, even though "not" is vary rare indeed.

Therefore it's best to do as we do, which is to very rarely close categories that are very rarely updated.

Just because a category is not updated does not necessarily mean that the web sites listed in the category are not useful information.

Also, please remember that for categories with subcats, the update date on the higher level category doesn't indicate whether any changes were made to a subcat. Getting rid of a cat means getting rid of all subcats too, after all.

That's not to say that we don't get rid of categories that are no longer useful - when there are no web sites in existence on a subject, and for one reason or another, it is obvious that there won't be any more, a category will get deleted. That is a pretty rare occurrence, though.
