I suggested my website to this category in early 2010, if i recall correctly. Unfortunately, the last time this category was updated was in January 2007; i.e. almost 4 years.

Now my understanding that unless that category is updated, there is no chance of my website or any other website to be reviewed for this category.

Therefore, i humbly request the senior editors look in the matter, as that would be a major help for myself and countless others in the waiting line.

Kind Regards,

You might have misunderstood our objectives and how we operate here. ODP is a volunteer organisation building a directory as a hobby. Editors edit where they wish, when they wish and as much as they wish within the constraints of their permissions. We have no schedules or systems to force people to do work that they don't volunteer to do. ODP is not primarily a free listing service for website owners and it does not attempt to process their listing suggestions within the time scales desired by them.

Some volunteer will process your listing suggestion in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one.

The date at the bottom of many categories at this moment is incorrect due to some problems we had.
The date will be corrected automaticaly the next time such a category will be edited.

Jim, thats a terrible argument.
Its like someone volunteering at a soup kitchen, who refuses to cook or serve the soup because they are 'volunteering' and would serve it when they feel like it, since they are not being paid for it, while the patrons go hungry night after night.

Off course, time scales can't be selected on my personal whims, but first signing up to a do a job ... than not showing up to do that job for 4 years is nothing short of incompetence, even if the individual was only volunteering.

@pvgool; thanks for the update.

No, this is a wrong and misleading example, because Dmoz is not a soup kitchen for hungry webmasters or site owners.

We don't have any possible food for this kind of hunger ;)

in my example, the patrons and user would be hungry masses; while the vendors of the soup ingredients would be the webmasters. :D

Jim, thats a terrible argument.

That wasn't an argument, it was a clear statement of facts. You're quite at liberty to wish that we were organised differently but it won't change how we operate.

We have over a million categories and only a few thousand of us to service them. Some of us are in the fortunate situation of being able to devote several hours a day to our hobby. Others can spare only a couple of hours a month. That disparity doesn't matter because all editorial effort contributes to our goals. Please note that no editor owns a category to the exclusion of others: There's no such thing as category sitting.

If you think we need more editors, become part of the solution and apply to become one. We'll happily take anybody who's honest, can communicate in the language of the requested category and understands its scope.

Put up or shut up :)
