Centralized blacklists?

Speaking about spam and "fake" cheating sites. Many blogs use centralized blacklists to minimize the amount of trash sites being thrown at their site. Can't the ODP use some of these blacklists from certain trusted sites to minimize the amount of trash that it needs to weed through? I realize there is probably a brain trust dealing with ways to combat these problems. I also realize this is a multi demensioned problem with no quick easy solution. There is probably trust issues about blacklists, but they are human edited and can be disputed if a good site was "accidentaly" added. Just a thought. No one likes spam and cheating sites, except cheaters!!!

Why do think we don't have such a list already of our own. After all DMOZ is one of the websites that receive the most spam.

In the name of fairness and balance we also maintain green lists, white lists, yellow lists, red lists and blue lists. :D

We tried to maintain a purple list once, but even tolerance has its practical limits. :D :D

Don't mind me, it is silly season tonight.

For obvious reasons, we strongly prefer not to discuss in public what defence systems might have, might not have or might be planning to implement :D .

Thanks for thinking of us though.

I can't say I remember a blue list. :D
... and I think the purple list is back, technically.

This is new I remember reading that Dmoz did not have site blacklists

if so is there a way do find out if sites are on this list, using the "fredom of information act" because Dmoz is owned by AOL aka AOL/Time Warner , Netscape.

The Freedom of Information Act
5 U.S.C. § 552, As Amended By
Public Law No. 104-231, 110 Stat. 3048

After all as a site administrator I have the ability to look up Ip Blacklisting as I contribute to the list as well

what do the different colored dots mean next to the names as well.

Some are green, some are blue and some are red and so on

If you had ever read that law, you would see that it applies to governmental agencies.

Neither DMOZ, AOL nor Time Warner are governmental agencies and thus the Freedom of Information Act has no standing.

Thanks for the chuckle, though. You made my night.

well I had to ask because at work we are always told about the Freedom of information act.

My site had to have a FOIA concerning the use of people privacy and financial information.

As far as our IP. Black list we have to disclose this information as to why and when.

So I kinda thought this would apply to dmoz as well

I may have listed the wrong legal paragraph on this matter

Green means the person is online, blue means they are not - red? (maybe they're online and angry :p ).

No actualy I am not angry, I have had a very good day today, inspite of the very bad 12 days offshore.

I have the AC on deep freeze mode, with a very big glass of cold water.

I didn't say we have such a blacklist. I just said that, as DMOZ is one of the most spammed sites on the net, we will already have a blacklist if we think we need one. [atleast that was what I tried to say]
