The company Metreel Ltd have two websites - www.craneinabox.co.uk which is listed in the Open Directory, and www.metreel.co.uk which isn't. The www.metreel.co.uk site has recently been redesigned and I now wish to submit it for inclusion in the Open Directory - to replace www.craneinabox.co.uk, as the metreel.co.uk site is the main website for the company. I have tried using the Update URL form but without success. The error message i get is:Bad category
You may not submit your site to this category.
Please go back in your browser if you need to resubmit the form.
Could this be because my email address does not contain metreel.co.uk, ie it is a security issue, or is there some other reason? ( I am the web designer for the company)www.craneinabox.co.uk is listed under:
Business: Industrial Goods and Services: Industrial Supply: Materials Handling: Manual: Cranes and Hoists

I'm unsure what's causing that so I'll let a more techie person answer it. What I can say is that on craneinabox.co.uk the flash animation that has the company phone number in it is much too fast for anyone to be able to make a note of it, and I couldn't find the company's postal address anywhere on the site. With metreel.co.uk one of the links on the home page gave me a 404 error. While these won't affect an ODP listing they are annoying usability issues.

I just tried a public-side update request for this site, and I can confirm that the "Bad Category" error comes up. My guess is that it has something to do with submissions being turned off in that category. My guess for why submissions are turned off is that it has something to do with the ongoing Business branch reorg.

I'll ask about the problem internally.

In the meantime, can you let us know what your update request would have said (title, description, and/or category change(s) if any)?

Hi and thanks for your replies:
The first page URL would have been www.craneinabox.co.uk
The second page URL would have been www.metreel.co.uk
Description: Specialising in the supply of mobile electrification systems, materials handling and fall arrest equipment.
Additional info:
Metreel ltd have two websites; www.craneinabox.co.uk which is listed in the OD and www.metreel.co.uk which isn't. Given the OD rule of one website per company, I would request that the www.metreel.co.uk site is reviewed with a view to replacing the craneinabox site in the OD listings.
www.metreel.co.uk is now the main website for the company.
The most suitable category for it would be
Top: Business: Industrial Goods and Services: Industrial Supply: instead of the additional materials handling: cranes & hoists (www.craneinabox.co.uk cat.)
as the company supply a great deal more than cranes.
I thought it best to sort out the URL change first though without complicating the issue with a category modifiaction as well
KIm :)

In reality, it's best to get all the changes done at once. When the reviewing editor looks at your update request he or she will have to re-evaluate the site's contents, and if they don't fit the current category, should find another category for it. We don't leave sites listed in inappropriate categories -- at least not on purpose. ;) Making all the change requests at one time means that an editor has better information about what needs to be done, and means that you're only waiting once, not twice (or more).

Unfortunately, just as I was about to find out more about the problem, our internal forums went down, so I was unable to check.

I don't know much about this area, but I have sent feedback to an active editor in the area -- hopefully this will get some results. If you don't see anything in a week or two, please bump this thread, or send me a PM.

The second suggested category I agree with but not the first. The sub-category 'materials handling' does NOT include Power Supply Systems, Electrical Control Systems, Off-Shore Power Supply Options, Sliding Doors, Access and Safety Systems. Materials handling is only a small part of what Metreel Limited are involved with, and only a sub - section of www.metreel.co.uk.
