You need to set a 301 permanent redirect from the old address to the new one. This will flag our link checking software of the change and verifies that the change is actually valid.

unfortunately thats not possible, otherwise would have done it already, due to extremely poor hosting. and its a client site so given the option I would move it to somewhere else but I can't. both urls point to the same website, just that the old url is not suitable, and they are moving eveything away from it.

You better get that redirect up because if Google catches you doing what you are doing you could get a penalty. I accidently had two urls for a site pointing at the same site and I managed to get the site knocked out of google search for about 8 months. I understand that we are not google, we are dmoz.org but I am just stressing that there are more reasons to get that redirect up besides that we need it to verify the change.

i know, hence me asking to change the odp listing...:)
however, the interesting thing about it is that (off topic coming up) is that google seems to think they are the same site. do a search for backlinks for example on the 2 addresses, but it also treats them both differently, a search for keyterm displays results from both urls.
Now the epsom regional listing for this site has been changed (I changed it, I'm epsoms editor..) so is there no way the other one can be changed without a 301?
