Hi,

I was just seeing what was going on with the submission of www.lowrvfinancing.com. It was submitted early February and in the logs of the site it showed that dmoz had visited, but I have not been able to find it with in dmoz.org nor have I received any acknowledgment about it.

I believe that when I submitted it that I submitted it to the following category - Top: Business: Financial Services: Automobile Buying and Financing.

Thanks so much for looking into this. I really appreciate it,

Seth Hassell

Thank you for letting me know that. I am new to this whole thing and am trying to learn it all. I appreciate your help. Do you know about how long it will take before the site is listed? I know that it says that it might take up to several weeks for this process to happen, but I am just curies.

Thanks again,

Seth

It could happen while I am typing this reply, and two years from now you could still be asking for the status.

There is no way of telling when and editor will get to it. You see, we have the best job in the world, other than the fact that we don't get paid, no one tells us where to work, how often to work, or what part of the directory we have to work in. If we don't want to process submissions, we don't have to. If we want to spend the day searching for misspellings, or typos, we can do that. If we don't want to log in for a month, we don't have to.

Thus, it is truly impossible for us to predict when and editor will feel like wandering into that category, and while there, if they will want to process submissions.

We will, eventually, get to it.

You are allowed to come back once a month and check on the status: but be forewarned, we are sticklers about having 30 days pass between status checks. We also very strongly suggest that you bookmark this thread so that you can re-use it. This allows us to keep all of the information relating to your inquiry in a single location.

See you in 30+ days!

Checking back

Hello,

I am taking spectreunners advice and just checking back in to see how things are going for the url www.lowrvfinancing.com. I checked in the ODP directory and could not find it as of yet.

If you look at www.lowrvfinancing.com you will notice that it is a great site that could really help out a lot of people who are searching for rv loans. They will receive a great interest rate and our company can make money off of financing their lown.

I understand that the ODP editors do not get paid and that they do all of this editing on their own time. I am grateful for that. It helps the whole net out, thank you for the time that you put in.

Thanks again for looking into this matter,

Seth

Hello,

I am back again to see if we have been added to the directory. I have looked and have not found us. I know that spectregunner gave me a long reason why it might take time to get into the directory, but it has been 3 months now. Spectregunner himself could have looked over the site and approved it by the time he has replied to me all of these times.

Please will someone view our site and approve it! It is a great site that has good information for RVers. It even has a payment calculator that we developed to let users check to see what their loan amount and payments would be.

Thank you in advance for reading this and I do wish that it gets approved. I have money (Monopoly Money that is) and my wife makes the best chocolate chip cookies out there - overnight shipping is a great thing these days. (ha ha)

Have a great day and let me know. Thanks again,

Seth

Seth, it is absolutely essential that these forums NEVER be used for backdoor requests for site reviews. We have far better and more efficient ways to request site reviews (e.g., the "suggest site" at dmoz.org); and if these forums got 3000 posts a day asking for site reviews, they would be totally useless for anything else. (And submitters aren't all THAT stupid -- if they figure out posting here gets a site review, they'll post!) If you want a site review, go to dmoz.org. If you want to talk to editors, come to this forum.

Spectregunner has the same right. He can talk to submitters, he can edit, or he can go hunt jackrabbits. Neither you nor I are allowed to set HIS priorities -- in the forums or any other way. And that's even if his gun weren't loaded.

It is a bit presumptuous, though, to assume that he ISN'T editing now -- after all, he might have other browser tabs open, don't you think?

Hutcheson,

I guess I do not know what this is all about. I thought that this is were you came to to see if your site had been reviewed. I have sent it to dmoz.org. I am not assuming anything about spectregunner. I am trying to lighten the mood that spectregunner left in his last two posts.

As for me being on the wrong page, help me get onto the right page. If I am not to be asking how our site is doing within the dmoz organization through this forum then why are you the first to tell me about it and not the last three editors that have responded to this.

Any how give me the best route to go and I will go that direction. I have tried to work the system that is set up to get our site into the directory. Maybe this whole time I have been going the wronge way. So please if you got any help for me I am ready to hear it.

Thanks,

Seth

Spectregunner himself could have looked over the site and approved it by the time he has replied to me all of these times.

But that assumes he has the ability to edit the category you are interested in. Editors that can answer status querys here, may in fact not be able to edit the sites they are answering.

Most non-editors have no understanding about the editing and review procedure and as a result make many false assumptions about what is happening.

In fact the best advice for everyone, submit your site, wait a month at least, ask about the status to make sure it's there, then go away for at least 6 months. Spend the time promoting your site in other ways, imporve the site itself, don't get obsessed with a DMOZ listing.

Asking again and again here is IMO very frustrating for site owners, and does nothing to get the site listed any faster.

seth, this is the first time you criticized an editor's use of his own time, and this is the first time you explicitly asked for a site to be reviewed. Neither of those is allowed.

Asking about site status is fine. You can continue to do that. You just need to understand that it won't make the site REVIEW happen more quickly -- and I think you have a right to know why, hence the explanation.

Hutcheson,

I did not know that I have asked it any other way then how I did in the other posts. I was looking to see if it had been put in and if not were it was in the whole process.

I appreciate the information the two of you have given me and I will continue to check back to see what the status is.

And that's even if his gun weren't loaded.

For the record, my gun is always loaded.

And Seth, just to be clear, we aren't picking on you. When we reply to a thread, we are also aware that many, many others read these postings, and we need to be emphatic in communicating what is or is not allowed.

I can't tell you how many times someone has taken an innocuous comment in one thread and tried to jam it down our throats as "policy" in another thread, and then gone to umpteen other fourms and complained about us being unfair and inconsistent.

spectregunner,

Thanks for the information and it makes a lot of sence. Per the new rule I am not looking to see how the site is doing. I am going to assume that it will make it there when it does. I would like to tell you sorry for what I put in the other post. In rereading what has been placed I can see what I typed was not the best way of putting things. Sorry Spectregunner.

See all of you when I make it to the directory,

Seth
