Hi,

This morning my editor application was declined:

http://www.dmoz.org/...nd_Development/

application date: Nov 29, 2012

username: chromedome

Here are the reviewer's comments:

Whilst this application standing alone is largely acceptable, we've re-evaluated your previous applications. There are several inconsistencies between them and the list of associated websites is too variable for comfort. The simultaneous applications didn't look good either. Not everybody is suited to editing so please don't apply again. We wish you well in your future endeavors elsewhere.

It's clear this particular administrator does not want me to submit another application. However, my question is whether or not I can appeal this response, because I believe it's not fair:

1. Yes, my list of associated sites is inconsistent. The reason for this is because I believed that DMOZ editors are not acting in the best interest of the directory. Although I didn't mention this in my application (for obvious reasons), a motivation for becoming and editor was to try and fix what is generally perceived to be a broken submissions process (if you do a search on Google about becoming a DMOZ editor, the majority of results talk about editor bias). So my intention with submitting inconsistent associated sites was not to dupe DMOZ, but to dupe what I perceived to be biased editors. My motivation for becoming an editor has nothing to do with any of the sites I removed from my list of associated sites, and am willing to take these websites offline to prove it.

Secondly, all my previous applications were to other categories, which means that the "Web Design & Development" category was not my first choice.

2. Yes, I submitted simultaneous applications. I wasn't aware that this was prohibited. However, I do understand that having multiple accounts is prohibited.

If you still feel I am unsuitable to be an editor, I will not bother you again, and wish you the best.

Regards,

jj

Meta editors are pretty adept at sniffing out applications that 'aren't quite right' or 'don't hang together'. You've now not only admitted your inconsistencies but told us that they were deliberate. The inconsistencies and multiple applications were self defeating because they put your integrity in doubt.

It's entirely fair that you reap what you sow and there is no right of appeal.

We do not deny that sometimes there have been such editors, it might be that there are currently such editors active, and for sure there will be some in the future.
But we do our best to keep them out (that is why we take so much attention to honesty in editor applications) and if they manage to slip through our nets they will be caught sooner or later and will be removed.

As we not have a submission process it can not be broken. We do have an option for people outside DMOZ to suggest websites
But the intention of that process is not to help people get their website listed in DMOZ.

> my question is whether or not I can appeal this response, because I believe it's not fair:
We do not think lying to us is fair. Keeping liers out is fair.

Thank you for your quick responses. Although I disagree with your conclusions, I will accept it and move on.
