I created a .co.uk website over three years ago for a company who are now expanding to sales in the USA. I've recently created a .com site along simular lines to the uk site, with dimensional details and other administrative areas which suit the American market. There will be a link from one site to the other so that users can choose which site is appropriate to their location. How do I make the .com site URL appear on Google instead of the original .co.uk site?

We have no control over what Google does. If the co.uk. site is listed in the ODP, you can suggest a change listing request to the .com URL.

That this may indirectly influence Google eventually, is not a concern for us one way or another.

Try looking at any popular SEO forum, where that question gets asked at least three times per week. There is plenty of advice out there to digest.

Especially look at discussions that talk about "duplicate content" before you kill your site off by looking like spam.

Thankyou for your replies. I will request a change of listing from the .co.uk to the .com site.

I have not looked at your site, and I will not look at your site, but if I were to receive such an update request, the very first thing I would do is launch your old site, and if it were working and there were no prominent indication on that site is going away is a short period of time (or nothing telling users to visit the new location) then there would be an expectionally high probability that I would decline the update request.
