I read on another website that dmoz may not allow a commercial website into the ODP if they don't provide a phone number on their site for customers. Is this true? Are there any special rules for commercial sites?

thanx =)

Some editors are wary of listing sites in the Regional tree where no contact address is given, but this is not official policy. Same applies for phone numbers.

To expand a little on the answers already given; while there are no hard-and-fast rules, there are some issues with the amount of information given on a site. And this depends very much on which area of the directory the site is to be listed.

There are many examples of this, but the two classic examples are Shopping, where it is necessary that the site have content which provides for online ordering of a product, and Regional, where, for most types of business, it is vital for an editor to be able to see that the company has a physical presence in the region. The best way to do this is to show on the site where you are located, or maybe a photograph of the company.

So there are no hard-and-fast rules, but there *are* content-related things you can do to make getting a listing approved easier. (We'd also hope that that content would help the end-user, too, which is ultimately why we are building the ODP)

Hope this helps.
