How does one select the correct place to submit when one has a community-based website but advertises on it?

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Ignore the advertising (that's what we'll do if they aren't the main purpose of the site, and if it's not too hard possible to navigate past them to the actual content.)

Just look at the actual content. And find the best category based on that.

Remember, lots of sites have ads on them, many ads not under the control of the site builder. And just imagine if "TV Guide" categorized TV shows based on whether beer, computers, cars, or personal hygeine products were advertised ...

Thank you for your help. I'm a Christian who has survived domestic violence even though my church taught me to accept bad behavior. I have learned that there is no requirement in the Bible to tolerate abuse in marriage. I wrote a book that contains correct Bible teaching on abuse. I want to post my website, [url removed], so that other people trapped by bad religious teaching can find out how to buy my book. I want them to leave bad marriages with a clear heart. Yes, I'm selling the information so that I can pay my attorneys.

Any advice on posting the website?

We're not really supposed to comment on individual websites, but I'm a bit bored at the moment, so I'll give some general pointers...

In general we'll list sites by topic. From what you've said (and I haven't looked at the site) it looks like you've got two topics in your site. One is the religious help side, one is the coping with abuse side.

I'd have a look for categories dealing with both (use the ODP search on some suitable keywords, and/or click around a bit) and see what you come up with. You might be lucky and find a 'religious help for those suffering abuse' category. If not, you may need to decide which topic is most important.

On the other hand, if your site is primarily there to sell stuff online, somewhere under http://dmoz.org/Shopping/ (read the category description and FAQ there for details).

A site whose primary purpose is to sell a book would likely belong only in a book shopping category.
