.coms with sister sites using .co.uk

I'm wondering how "sister sites" (.coms & .co.uks) are looked at by ODP.

We currently have our .com site listed in the following category:
1. Computers: Software: Business: Small Business: Daycare

We've recently launched a sister site for users in United Kingdom, that is hosted in the UK and has a .co.uk address. Although the sites look very similar, the UK site does contain unique content, for example only products sold in the UK are listed, prices are in pounds, international phone numbers are listed, UK english is used like centre (instead of center), etc.

The closest directory I've come across that is UK specific appears to be:
2. Regional: Europe: United Kingdom: Society and Culture: Children: Childcare

However, other .co.uk sites with similar information seem to be in catetory #1 above, not in the regional category #2.

Would it be advisable to ask for our listing in #1 to be updated to include a second URL to our sister .co.uk site? Or would a new submission to #2 seem more appropriate?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Without the specific URL's - this is only a general answer.

As a rule, a company will get one listing only for one web site. Spreading content over different domain names, will not yield a second listing, unless the content is radically different and would end up in a very different category. So if you sell software, and farm tractors and those are on different sites, it would be probably be ok.

However, you can in many cases get a second listing for the web site in a Regional category, but that would be based on the location of your office, not the clients you serve.

I have noticed UK is a little different. For example, they list UK Shopping sites in Regional. You might want to hold out and see if a UK editor has a different answer.

Why do you need a second domain to list UK-only stuff? Surely a page on the .com site would be sufficient.

I agree with bobrat on this.

I edit primarily within UK. We might list the .com version in it's locality - I'd need to know the url to give a definitive answer - and it might also be eligiblefor a UK level listing.

The .co.uk version wouldn't be eligible anywhere because its content should be accessible from the main website and has no need of its own domain. If the webmaster has omitted to link to that section for some reason, that's his/her choice rather than a reason why we should include it.

Please be aware that spreading/duplicating a website over multiple domains is often done by webmasters whose main intent is to achieve greater net prominence through deceit. I'm sure you wouldn't want to be taken for one of them.

Thank you all for the input. The purpose of the UK site is to show that we're serious about doing business in the UK and, of course, to increase exposure in SERPs. Search phrases for UK users tend to be different from North American users. UK versions of our software products are tailored to meet specific UK needs, for example different address formatting, using pounds, spelling differences, etc. We clearly state that we are a US based company with an emphasis on UK friendly products. I think the idea of clear links from the .com to .co.uk site is probably the right approach, rather than a separate submission. Thanks again.
