We are Divine Couture (www.divinecouture.com) a small wedding gown designer boutique based in Singapore that sells to south east asia. We tried to register under

http://www.dmoz.com/Regional/Asia/Singapore/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Clothing/

But it says that

"We only accept sites managed by a shop, shopping mall or products distribution company in Singapore for this category. Visitors must be able to purchase the products through the site. Sites must contain online ordering form and/or shopping cart."

Now i looked at the sites there and mostly none of them conform to this rule and it seems an unfair ruling anyway.
The only people who buy wedding gowns through the internet get married in elvis chapels in las vegas.

So where does the best wedding gown designer in singapore register their store or does "open" now just mean open to the big rich stores that get all the prime listings everywhere else ?

See also the Shopping FAQ: "What is Shopping? Shopping/ contains sites of which the primary focus is to allow the consumer to select and obtain goods and services over the Web. Common examples include: Integrated online shopping-cart systems that allow the user to order directly over the Web; Online shopping-cart systems that allow the user to generate an order form to be sent to the merchant via fax or snail-mail; Simple directories of products and prices that the user can order via mail or phone. The key is that the site contains three elements: lists of products for sale, prices, and information on how the consumer can obtain the product from their own home."

If you are a wedding gown designer, I'd try Business/Arts_and_Entertainment/Fashion/Designers/Bridal. It lists designers located in various countries.

Let me clarify a bit -- what tuisp was saying is absolutely correct for sites in the Shopping/ hierarchy, so you would not get a listing in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Clothing/Formal_Wear/Women%27s/Bridal/ . However, the question you were asking about was for a Regional/ branch Shopping category, and sites can be listed in those categories without offering online purchasing. The category description was clearly in error (there is even a distinct subcategory there for online shopping), and has been changed. Thank you for pointing this out. :)

The advice tuisp gave about submitting to the Business/ branch category was also an excellent suggestion. You should submit both where he suggested and to http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Singapore/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Clothing .

Good. I'm glad we could help.

Don't worry about the multiple submissions issue if you're only submitting those two. Submitting once to a Topical category and once to a Regional category isn't going to raise any red flags -- especially if both are appropriate, as is true in this case. :)
