If I have a site who's main purpose is to sell and promote a book, but does contain some additional content on the subject of the book, is this accetpable to DMOZ? Is there any link to a page which discusses this issue?
...a site that contains affiliate links in addition to other content (such as a fan site for a singer that has interviews and photos plus banner ads and links to buy the singer's CDs) might be an acceptable submission to the directory.
I submiited the site around the beginning of April, so my month waiting period is not up - so it's probably premature to post the url. I discovered this forum after submitting, and found all the warnings about why sites do not get accepted, and wanted to see if I needed to tweak something before an editor saw it. Thanks.
I see a lot of sites that would fit this general description. 99% of them are "delete with extreme prejudice."
But some do deserve listing.
If there is enough unique information about the TOPIC so that it would be USEFUL to someone NOT interested in buying the book....
... and that unique content is PROMINENTLY featured at the site ...
...then the presence of book sales -- whether yours or not, whether affiliate-tagged Amazon links or unique single-source mail-order -- will not matter. It can be listed in a "Topical" category.
If the purpose of the site is clearly and primarily to MARKET the book, then it won't be listed.
If the purpose of the site
is to SELL a book not available elsewhere, it will be listed in shopping.
