Copyright concern

I was about to submit my site but under terms and conditions it appears I am assigning copyright or at least allowing Netscape to use any material on my site without license, permission, royalty, etc.

Can I confirm this is the policy? Does it just mean in listings and SEs? Where else might I find my content?

My site contains a lot of educational content that I have spent weeks researching and writing. I also intend to publish it in a book.

I would be very concerned if someone else submitted my URL without asking -especially if they can agree (legally) to grant permissions that are not theirs to grant!

You just allow netscape to use the submission (aka the title, the description), so that a) the ODP editors may change it without violating copyright laws and b) it may be reproduced (for example by our Data users like Google) without your further agreement.

Btw: This was discussed several times before, for example here.

Suggestion

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate the need to keep terms and conditions as lean as possible but given then concerns that copyright issues tend to stir up, perhaps it would be an idea to make the terms clearer in this regard. You can be almost certain that for every person that discusses it on here, a good number of others will be put off going through the registration process to find out from a community. I had a hell of a job finding someone to contact about this and I spent ages looking around eg in Project Help Central before I stumbled across this forum. If the powers that be want feedback from someone submitting for the first time, maybe it could be signposted more clearly. Problem solved anyway thanks!

I would have thought the note at the end of the submission agreement clarifies it:
"submission" means the title and descriptive information you supply for your site, not the actual website or its contents
