Corrent Bumping Procedures for Site Status

After a site status has been requested in the "Site Status" forum:

What is the appropriate time to wait before there is a response to a thread? I have noticed that many are replied to within a day or two. But what about those that are not responded to?

If it is not responded to within a certain amount of time should we bump it? What is the appropriate procedure.

thanks,

We try our best to respond to as many of the requests as possible, sometimes there are some that slip through the cracks. If you post a request and no one responds don't be offended, in all probability no one with editing priviledges in the category had a chance to get to it. Wait a few days (I don't know if there is an official time frame but I think a standard response might be give it about a week) and return to the same thread and post a response in it. That will :bump: (bump) it back to the front of the main list.

I have seen some posts where requests have been bumped 2-3 times in the same day. That isn't going to get anyone to respond any quicker, in fact they might see in the replies column 3 replies (all the bumps) and assume someone is already helping out and not stop in to take a look.

Hope this helps.

Back when there was only one submission status forum, it was suggested that you bump a thread when it falls off the second page of threads. I'm not sure that's still realistic, but you certainly shouldn't bump a thread while it's still on the first page.

I would suggest that if no editor has responded to your request and it has fallen to page 3, it would be safe to "bump" it.

Earlier than that and you're likely to simply annoy the people you are asking for help. (It is no wonder that so many other forums expressly forbid "bumping.')

Added: arubin was faster!

Ok, Good advice, because I submitted yesterday and I am 2 steps from page three without a response (and I followed all rules). I understand that it depends on certain editors and and i wanted to know when to bump it cause i dont want anyone to tell me "No Soup for You!"

So basically I will be on page three in less than 1.5 days. After a week I will be on page 8. So its still up in the air whether 3 pages or 1 week is appropriate.

I defer my response to my colleagues wrathchild and arubin who are much more experienced and knowledgeable. I suggest using their advice over my own and wait till you hit page 3. That seems to be sufficient

Sounds better to me too :)

Just remember to continue to use the same thread with each subsequent response. Creating more than one thread for the same requests is also annoying. :D

Bump again, we are on the cusp of the huge batch of people who we pushed out when we first started the six month rule, and a number of status requests are slipping through the cracks.

I know it is frustrating, but I can assure you that it is not personal, so your continued good humor is appreciated.
