I'm afraid you'll have to wait until Christmas time for your status check.

As I'm sure many editors will be busy on Christmas day itself, am I too early to ask for a status check?

I recently emailed the editor of this category for advice on where our web site might be going wrong but sadly recent emails have been ignored.

Bump.

Don't want to start a new thread, Plaw is me, I lost my password and requested it to be sent again, it wasn't.

I guess everybody has gone away for Christmas

Why do I get the feeling I'm wasting my time?

Not wanting to sound pedantic, could you define after Christmas?

"Item2" states "you'll have to wait until Christmas time for your status check" To many, Christmas time starts in November.

December 25th is Christmas time to me personally, will December 26th be a reasonable date?

I'll ask again on January 7th 2005 then.

It is THIS Ethiopian Christmas you're talking about right? Not 2006?

Hello chaps.

Just to be extra irritating I thought I'd turn up two days early. (Not really, no access to the PC for a few days)

So what it's to be? Ask again in 6 months? Rejected (see submission guidelines and take a wild guess) or Accepted and I'm going blind?

In all seriousness, if it has been rejected I would appreciate knowing why.

Thank you.

It's been rejected a few times, but it is awaiting review again.

I don't edit in the area, so have no comment on whether the changes you spoke of will be sufficient to get a listing.

Thanks Sole.

I have tried to contact the editor in this cat' without success. I'm sure we are following guidelines too

It'd be great to know what the rejection reason(s) is.

Good enough for Forbes magazine but not Dmoz!

I really am confused now.

Forbes magazine recently gave our website (www.pokernews.com or pokernews.info) this report:

http://www.forbes.com/bow/b2c/category.jhtml?id=294

Best web pick. Very flattering I think you'll agree.

Yet our site is rejected in this category:
http://www.dmoz.org/Games/Gambling/Poker/

We have no idea why.

Perhaps an experienced editor or a webmaster with some idea of where we are going wrong could advise? I know Dmoz is not Forbes, however I also know Dmoz list web sites with good, unique content, something which our web site has had since it's launch and continues to add to each day.

All thoughts and opinions are most welcome. Thank you.

I've merged all of the threads that you personally started about this site into one -- didn't bother merging the one dajeffster points out since it involved different RZ members but, yeah, it's all about the same site.

Please don't keep starting new threads to ask why your site isn't listed/listable. Even had legal action not been threatened, per our site FAQs and forum guidelines, this forum is not the place to ask why your site might not be listable in the ODP.

Poker News

I just wanted to confirm that legal action was never an option to us. I appreacite the difficult job that good editors do in dmoz which as I now understand is purely out of love for the internet and to provide the public with the best possible search results. Among these good editors I also consider the editor for http://www.dmoz.org/Games/Gambling/Poker/

I can see how difficult of a task that he/she has, and no matter what I say or anyone from pokernews ever says this will be up to him to list the site. I appologize for my haste and silly threats.

I would also like to add that we intend to follow the guidlines of dmoz and hopefully at some point we could be considered for a listing in the best directory that is available DMOZ. Considering that we employ so many people at Pokernews and that we provide great poker information and the very latest poker news to the general public. I guess that it would be normal for any of the editors to feel hard done by if they would run a site like Pokernews and it would not get listed I persoanlly feel its like not listing www.fiba.com if you personally as an ediotr do not like International basketball but I guess that that I need everybody to take a look at www.pokernews.info first you will probably come back again if you follow poker.

Kind Regards,
Tony Guoga

We provided an updated status report on January 8th 2005. In accordance with this forum's rules, you may ask for another any time after July 8th.

The Poker categories are extremely popular and there's thus a heavy workload. There's no predicting when the editors there might review your submission. In the meantime, there's no point extolling your website's virtues here because they are unlikely to read this forum.
