Dazed and Confused

I am not complaining, in fact I understand the process and respect it. I have a Music Forum. I do not think I am allowed to put the URL here so I will hold off until a Staff Member asks for it.

I submitted my site and after three months several Site Stat Service boards had me listed in DMOZ when before I was not because I had not submitted yet. Thus I trust the Stat Service to be accurate. I came over here ASAP and did a search but I can not seem to find it. I know the team is very busy here, but it would be nice to know if one is accepted or not. Why would several Site Stat and Rank systems show me as DMOZ if I am not? The Google, Alexa and Yahoo data is correct so I assume the DMOZ status as yes is too but my Father always told me, to Assume is to make an Ass of You and Me (Ass u me).

I submitted under Art/Music/Forums but that may have been wrong if DMOZ thought we should be placed elsewhere.

Any assistance is appreciated.

The DMOZ search database may be out-of-date. The only way to really check to see if your site is listed is to browse the category where you think it is. (Presumably the services you mentioned tell you what category they saw your site in, so you should be able to browse that category to see if your site truly is listed.)

Note: We don't provide information about specific sites here so thank you for not including your site details in this thread. (And we won't ask for it.)

Ok will do, and no problem on the details, I read the user agreement :) That is why I did not post it.

Question: There would be no way I would show up as a Yes unless I were truly in DMOZ correct? The sites did not state which category I am DMOZ.

It Looks like this:

Google Page Rank 0
ALEXA Rank 400,000
Listed DMOZ Yes
Listed Yahoo Yes
Avg Ad Earnings per Day $11
Site Worth $5,500

Several such services show Yes for DMOZ but then others show No (confused). I have spent at least two hours looking in the DMOZ directory... All and all I will trust I am in there unless you think otherwise. I did not find myself in the area I submitted for. Arts/Music/Forums.

Do the staff have the ability to tell if a site is there or not? If so what section do I go ask if allowed to do so.

You mention the search may be out of date, may I ask and please do not take offense, if various function within DMOZ are not up to date, then what is really the purpose of DMOZ? Many on the boards seem to share a concern that things are out of date, listing get moved with no notice etc.

I view DMOZ as exclusive and truly pure when it comes to listing, for me you are the ultimate in listing but if things have changed, that is truly unfortunate. I can see why so many are confused given the search funtion and several catagories have not been updated in a good long time. Of course the editors are on their own time, I respect and do not challange that. However, the functionality of the DMOZ site should be kept as current as possible to ensure it is still seen as the Ultimate Listing to earn/obtain etc... It truly seems a tad unfair that folks do not know if they are listed or not. But then again, we have to play by the rules and that is ok by me.

Appreciate the assistance either way and I thank you for the fast reply.

If you trust those services, then trust those services. Me, personally, I wouldn't trust that they are 100% correct. The only 100% way to check is to actually look in DMOZ itself.

Editors have the ability to tell, but we do not offer any information of that nature to non-editors. There is no section of this forum where you may ask. (See the notice at the top of every forum for information about why we no longer offer that information.)

DMOZ doesn't exist as a service to website owners, but rather exists to provide a categorized collection of sites to Web surfers. Even if those categories are not complete, with every possible site listed in them, they are still useful to those surfers. The search has always been rudimentary and has always lagged behind the directory itself; but that's OK -- a directory is meant to be browsed, not searched.
