Dear Editors - Please Advice me

Dear Editors and Members of the Open Directory,

Im a webmaster of a chatting network website, Thanx God i could list the website in 2 categories, one in arabic and the other in english since the website provide both languages, but i feel im alittle avid and i have few questions:

- Policy say multiple submission not allowed, while i see alot of websites getting 3, 4 or more listing, is it really not allowed or it depends on content? i mean here, for my website if i have a subdomain or a folder like this :

domain.com/games or games.domain.com, this can be accepted as another submission?! I saw some editors saying that multiple submission may be accepted if the editor wants to do it, when he or she believe the site worth it, so the question is, if i keep trying to submit my folders or my subcategories multible times, i mean here, to submit to a new category im not listed in, wait for next ODP update if im not listed, try another category ( offcourse categories that i have a subdomain or a folder - part of site that provide the service related to the category) , this is accepted? or its against policy?

My idea here, if multiple listing decided by the review of the editor, its allowed that i keep trying to get my domain listed in more categories and wait for the editor openion? note i dont do multiple submission , i submit to new category each update , lets say each week, and wait for results.

Wish to get an answer.

No, you really should not keep suggesting your site to more places. Sending it in every week falls within the definition of multiple submissions, even spamming, and is not accepted. Looking for the latest update is pointless; that a category has been updated does not imply that all suggested sites have been reviewed, it doesn't even mean that a single one of the sites waiting for review has been reviewed.

Please understand the difference between multiple listings and multiple suggestions. The former is up to the editors' discretion. The latter is not allowed except within the approved exceptions: multiple languages, and regional/topical. Suggesting the site to multiple categories in the same category tree (such as Computers/ or Business/ ) is completely against the site submission guidelines, which you agree to when suggesting your site.

What about content? I got a listing in - Arts: Entertainment - category , for arabic language, im allowed to try for same directory in english?

And i have a listing in web based chat rooms in english, can i suggest in the same directory in arabic? since i provide both languages?

Another thing, i have an active big forum, games portal im not allowed to try at least adding them to the games and forums categries?

I know nothing guaranteed to get the multiple listing, but what about suggesting them, its ok? if i do it for 1 time?

Another Question: as an editor, when u see a suggestion, do u search to see where site is listed? if you believe this site is suitable for category suggested , but have 2 other listing in the ODP, you will accept it? im talking in general about all editors, and editors are allowed to accept it?

Last Thing: some categories are without an editor, like the closest category to my website, which is chat for arabic language, shall we try suggesting sites there? or you advice not to waste time till that category have an editor?

Yes, suggesting a site for different languages is allowed but only if these languages are available on the website with enough content and in a real translation (no machine translation)

Correct. Such a site may only be suggested once. But an editor may decide to list it several times.

Only for the different languages. Suggest it for each language once to the one best category.

We don't have to search. Our software provides us with this information automaticaly.

It is very uncommon for a site to be listable in several categories.
If I see that a sites is already listed twice (in the same language) I check if it is listable in the category it is suggested to or if any of the current listings are in the correct category. This may result in rejecting of the suggestion (most probably), listing of the suggestion (lest probably), listing of the suggestion and at the same time removing the current listing [making this a move of a current listing] because the new category is better suited than the old one.
It could also result in a ban of the website for further suggestions if I notice that frequent suggestions are made to several categories. We don't like this kind of spam.

All categories have editors. It is just that most categories have no listed editor (please read our FAQ for further explanation.

BTW You should not "try to get a site listed" you should carefully read our guidelines to see if a site is listable, carefully select the best category and than carefully write a proper title and description. Doing all this will help you to bring the site under our attention. That is all you can and must do. Do not try anything else, it will only be counter productive.

I have just a little question pls: my domain in egnlish lang category is listed with main domain, its ok to email editor asking him to update link to www.domain.com/en , since its the link for english section on the site?

No, please don't. We prefer to link to the root of the site, not the language deeplinks.
