I need to remove the word "Australian" from the description DMOZ has for my web site.

I've checked on this page: http://dmoz.org/help/update.html#update and the advice is to "Simply go to the category which your site is listed, and click the "update URL" link at the top". When I go to the page where my site is listed there is no "udate URL" at the top.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

I believe the description is correct as it stands - I doubt your update request will be accepted.

This is where I am: Business > Construction and Maintenance > Materials and Supplies > Wall, Floor and Decorative Finishes > Ceilings . However there is no "Update Listing".

I've seen other pages where "Update Listing" is a link at the top of the page but not the page I'm located on.

I sell to the US market and I believe quite a few Americans would overlook my site when seeing "Australian" as the first word in the description. To me it is important to remove the word so that visitors can check out my products before making decisions against buying from overseas.

I appreciate your input guys.

Jean,

I have the page for the category up right now, and I see the "Update Listing" link.

Make sure you are using the URL http://dmoz.org/Business/Constructi...Wall,_Floor_and_Decorative_Finishes/Ceilings/ and not that of a mirror site.

Right at the top of the page underneath the green bar, you should see a row of links that look like this: "about dmoz | suggest URL | update listing | become an editor | report abuse/spam | help"

Hope this helps.

You're not likely to get "Australian" removed from the listing, though. Your company *is* Australian so it is a completely accurate description.

Adding country names is an editor's decision. I often add them as it's relevant to the user of the directory to know where a company is located.

When I'm purchasing, I may choose to avoid out of country suppliers, as it may involve extra postage, delays and customs duty. On the other hand I may choose to deal with another country because I think their products are good, or the exchange rate is favourable to me.

So it can work for or against you. I guess you want it removed so that someone who does not want to deal outside of the US will come to your site anyway, get interested in the product, and then only notice you are in Australia after they get hooked.

On the other hand it can work for you, someone who searches ODP for " Australian ceilings" will find you.
