Description for Dmoz

Hi,
Who provides the description for the site, editors or the one who submits the site? And what if I submitted my site in the wrong category? Will my site be rejected? If my site is rejected, what are my chances of submitting it again? Thanks in advance.

We ask submitters to provide a proposal for a description. We provide guidelines for how to write descriptions. But more often than not the descriptions that are received are far from the guidelines.

Editors will accept the description if they feel it is compliant, edit it, or maybe discard it completely and write it anew.

If the reviewing editor feels like the site does not belong in that category, correct ODP procedure is to move it to the unreviewed area of the correct category. Most of the time this is followed, sometimes the site gets deleted by accident.

If the site is rejected based on its content, then submitting it again will not improve the chances of a listing. If it was removed due to an error, or if the site wasn't working at the time the reviewing editor looked at it, then a resubmission will get evaluated just as though it hadn't been submitted before.

Hope this helps.

How will I know that my site is not accepted in the category I submitted to? Thank you for your time.

You ask in our "site submission status" forum. Read the guidelines, and follow them there.
